"D-dad?" dan asks, his heart stops, looking into the soft eyes of the familiar man.
"Oh my god! I finally found you!" dans dad pulls dan into a tight hug, dans eyes start watering, holding onto his dad tightly.
"where did you go.." dan asks quietly. they pull away and his dad sighs.
"this is going to take a.. lot.. of explaining to do.." he sighs. dan looks to the side of him and sees phil looking very confused,
"I think I do to.. Phil, come here.. it's fine.." dan says, phil walks over to them, still seeming confused.
"Phil... this is my Dad.." dan explains, phils eyes widen,
"so great to meet you phil! who are you to dan? Friend? Best Friend, Boyfriend?" dans dad asks jokingly,
"uh, you know what, just come home with us and we can talk.. we have a Lot to go over.." dan says.
Dans dad gets in his own car and follows them back to their apartment,
"I cant believe.. after 11 years now.. he's back.. he's actually back" dan cant believe it,
"You didn't tell me what happened to your dad, where has he been?"
"in the military! overseas helping countries that were getting attacked. I cant believe he's back though!"
"he's obviously much nicer than.."
"oh no, definitely! he taught me all my manors!"
they arrive back at the apartment and let him in, taking him up to their floor. once they get inside they head into the living room and sit on the couch across from each other.
"what a lovely apartment! you boys must be working your arses off!" he looks around at the apartment, smiling.
"s-so when did you get back?.. you know.. from the military?.." dan asks,
"about 3 days ago... I've been staying at a hotel nearby till I was dismissed officially. I tried ringing your mother but no one picked up.." dan plays with his thumbs.
"whats wrong Daniel? you're fidgeting?"
"uh.. its about.. mum.." dan starts,
"she's in jail.." dan mumbles, slowly looking up to make eye contact.
"really? what did she do?! did she start going loopy?" he asks,
"she tried to attack us, she went mental when I was in hospital.. its a really long story" dan starts explaining,
"Tell me everything, I've told you where I've been, I should catch up with whats happening in your life. and you can tell me who this gentleman is in your life" he refers to phil, making dan giggle a little.
"uhm.. quick question.. you're not against gay marriage.. are you?" dan asks, dans dad looks shocked
"are you kidding me?" dan gulps, feeling like something bad might happen- "Of Course not! most of my army friends are gay themselves! I was protesting overseas for gay rights!"
"r-really?" dan asks, he nods and smiles
"well.. phil is actually my fiancé.. we are getting married" dan says. dans dad looks thrilled,
"thats fantastic! oh my goodness Daniel!! thats absolutely wonderful!" he gets up from his seat to hug them both tightly, they both giggle.
"thank you sir" phil says,
"no no please! call me Dad" he says, phil smiles
"how did you two meet?" he asks, sitting back down.
"in high school! we really liked the same musical so we started to hang out together and got really close!"
"awh thats so sweet! what musical?"
"Dear Evan Hansen!"
"oh really?! they're doing a musical of it here! apparently the kid who plays as Evan is really talented, it was the front of a magazine I saw on my flight home!" dan blushes and both him and phil giggle
"I think his name was Daniel as well- why are you two laughing?" dans dad asks,
"I-i'm Evan Hansen... thats actually me.." dan says, dans dad looks extremely surprised
"my god how many surprises have you got?!" they all laugh.
