'SO FAR, SO GOOD...'I think as we walk through the streets of Stohess.
"Getting away was easier than I thought." Eren says, only to be hushed by Mikasa. "I was in the carriage the whole time, but they didn't check on me once."
"Stop looking around so much." Mikasa scolds, but Eren ignores her.
"It gives you a good idea of how seriously the Military Police takes their job..." he berates, "Now we just have to hope they don't find out that Jean is covering for me."
I can only imagine how Jean must be feeling right now. We assigned him the job of wearing a wig and posing as Eren for the MPs. The whole plan was for us to convince Annie to let us sneak Eren away from the MPs and use her MP privilege to get through the checkpoints in Stohess. Its all a ruse, though. The second we find that tunnel we'll detain her.
If her being the Female Titan turns out to be false, which I'm hoping it will, I don't think a million apologies will get us to be friends again. It hurts me to know this, but its irrelevant compared to the hurt she's going to feel. The plan was to stick together no matter what, and I already ruined that by joining the Survey Corps. Now I'm going to ruin what's left between us.
It seems... I'm the bad guy in her story.
However, if it turns out to be true... And she really is the reason squad Levi and hundreds of other soldiers lost their lives on the expedition... then I don't know how I'll take it.
We walk in a tight group. Armin is doing a good job of leading Annie to the trap, telling her where to go and which turns to take. Anticipation starts eating away at me. So many things can go wrong.
"I don't think it'll take long until they find out... I mean, Jean and I look nothing alike." Eren says lowly.
"Don't worry." I reassure him. "You both look like criminals and have a nasty look in your eyes."
"You're one to talk. Besides, I don't have his horse face." Eren pouts.
"So... If I hadn't helped you, how were you planning to get past the wall?" Annie asks intriguingly.
Armin answers the question swiftly. "We were going to break through using our 3DMG."
"That's absurd... Wouldn't it have been a lot less trouble to escape before entering Stohess? Why here and now?" She asks and glances at me. I can tell she's starting to suspect.
"I thought the switch with the body double wouldn't work without terrain as complex as the city's." Armin explains. "Acting obedient for a bit to wear down suspicions, then slipping away, seemed like it'd buy us more time than openly trying to run."
Annie seems to understand. "Oh... All right, then."
Bullshitting yourself out of problems really is a skill, huh? I quietly admire.
