Still deciding of keeping an low profile I declined the offer from Aisla to have dinner in the main hall.
"Are ye sure?" she asked worried. "Ye haven't eaten much since yesterday."
"I'm sure, I rather eat alone in mine room than in the hall." I smiled.
"Well yer not going to eat alone, I'm staying with ye," she decided. "I'm going down to the kitchen and get some food and wine," without waiting for my protest she left.
I sighed and sat down on the chair looking out over the land behind the castle. In the distance there was a building which looked like a stable, nearby was a garden where people walked in and bended down to pick flowers.
Ailsa came quickly back and she sat down a tray of food. I recognized, Cock a leekie soup, Smoked Salmon, stovies, birdies and Scotch Pie.
For desserts she brought shortbread cookies. Dundee cake, Chrananchan and peppermint creams. Instead of wine she brought Whisky.
"Feeding a whole orphanage?" I asked while laughing a bit.
"No?" she looked puzzled. "Mah grandmother is th' housekeeper 'n' heid o' th' kitchen 'ere, so we got extra food."
"That is kind of her," I dipped a piece of bread in the soup and eat it. "Oh damn, this is delicious." I spoke out.
"I ken right," she smiled and poured some whisky in a glass and raised it. "Slàinte*,"
"The same," I raised my glass and then took a sip of it. a warm feeling went down my gullet. "So your going to marry."
Her face brighten up and a big smile appeared. "Yes, in about two weeks," she said with a sense of pride in her voice.
"How is he?" I asked. "I mean what sort of man is he?"
"Well, He is kind, funny, good looking. All ye want in a Lad," she looked at me. "And is there a Lad waiting for ye in Ireland or back in the Netherlands?"
I choked on a small piece of Salmon and coughed. "Ehh well, that is the whole reason why I left the Netherlands. I was about to get married, but before the ceremonie I ran, boarding the first ship I saw," I decide to stick with the same story as I told James. "I actually hoped for Spain but well it was Ireland so I decided to go with that."
"So yer future husband stood before the altar, waiting for ye but ye never came," she chuckled. "I would loved to see that face."
Instead of laughing with her I froze. I saw his face for me, probably upset when he figured out that I was gone and left my engagement ring behind.
"Oi lass, are ye alright?" I heared the voice of Aisla woke me up.
"Yes I am more than alright, I just thought about something," I answered and took a bite out of the Scotch pie.
"Well I hope ye find luck and happiness with another Lad," she smiled. "Maybe someone here."
"I think not, I'm planning to stay for a short time," I smiled. "Colum said that this Saturday a tinker comes who could bring me to Inverness,"
"Yer not going to stay for my wedding," she looked disappointed. "Please Greer stay a little longer,"
"I'm sorry Aisla," I took her hand. "I really need to go, this is not my home."
"Well let's make the last four days the best then," she said less exited as before and poured in a other glass of Whisky. "Slàinte,"The next day I woke up early and got some breakfast from the Grandmother of Aisla.
"Mrs Fitz can you tell me where Jamie is?" I asked, she looked puzzled and then she nodded.
"Ah Young mister MacTavish," she smiled. "I ken, he is near the stables lass, here take this." She gave me a basket filled with food and I know it was for Jamie.
"Thank you," I smiled and made my ways to the stables.
When I walked near it I saw Jamie in the circle taming a horse. when I was in hearing distance I heared him softly speaking to him in Gaelic.
I looked in amazement as he worked, flexing his muscles under his Shirt. I was so caught up that o stumbled and fell against the fence that made a loud noise that startled the horse, making it break lose of Jamie's grip a fled.
"dannsa e**" he cursed and turned around to see me.
"I'm so sorry Jamie," I apologized.
'Dinna Fash yirsel Mistress von Holland, she is just a girl with Spirit that's all," he smiled. "What are ye doing here?"
"I came to bring breakfast and I wanted to see you," I smiled.
"Well that is kind," he jumped over the fence making his kilt move a little bit up. "Let's go then to have a picknick," he gave me his arm which I took and let him lead the way.----
Gaelic words.
