"So never rode a horse?" Jamie asked while putting food in his mouth by using his Sgian dubh as fork.
"Never, ever." I laughed. "I'm sort of scared for them,"
"Scared of horses, Why in Lords name, they are kind as a wee bairn," he stated. "Only when ye manage to scare them."
"Well I never scared them, but they are so big and strong. They could crush your skull with one kick." I said and Jamie started to laugh. which sounded heavy but warm.
"Who told ye that nonsense," he took bit in a piece of bread. "They could only break a few ribs or other bones."
"Well yeah that is reasuring," I rolled my eyes. "But I don't need to ride a horse, I'm fine."
"Yer not," he stood up and brushed of some grass of his kilt. "Come Sassenach, I'll teached ye,'
I also stood up and walked behind him to the stables directly to a beautiful brown English fullblood.
"This beauty is Cluaran," Jamie patted the flank of it and the let it out of the box.
I took a step back in shock of the size. "I'm not in a million ways are going to ride that bloody beast." I stated.
"It's not a beast, it's an animal Greer," Jamie said patiently. "And I'm going to sit with ye," he put a saddle on it and gave me the reins. "Now slowly walk outside with him,"
I did what he said and took on a slow pace. the horse followed me and Jamie gave me a stop sign.
"Now hold the reins and step on it," he set a stool beside the horse. "First yer left and then ye swing the right over the back," I did what he said and sat on it very quickly. "Good job lass," he praised and stepped up behind me.
"Well you didn't see me ride it," I laughed nervously.
"No," his arms wrapped around my waist to hold my hands on the reins. "Why weren't ye scared to ride it with me two days ago?"
"Shock," I shrugged my shoulders. "Tell me what to do teacher."
"Set yer heels in his ribs and say 'Falbh', that means go," I nodded and did what he told me.
"Falbh," I said but Cluaran didn't move. "Falbh," I said again but still no movement.
Jamie chuckled. "I forgot ye don't speak Gaelic, Atleast not good," he took over the reins moved it up and down with force. "Falbh," he said and Cluaran started to move.
"Jezus," I quickly grabbed the arms of Jamie to hold my balance. "A warning was fair enough,"
"Sorry Lass," he laughed. "Take the reins," he laid my hands on the reins and then let them go so I was in full control of it. "Now ye decide the pase." and he showed me how.
The entire midday he spend teaching me how to properly ride a horse and I had to say I enjoyed it. Horses where not that scaring as I thought they would be and Jamie was a good instructer.
And to be honest more I enjoyed the presences behind me. His chest felt hard pressed against my back and his heat felt nice.
Jamie let us stop on top of a hill and helped me off. "Not bad for a beginner Sassenach."
"Thank you," I sat down on a rock while Jamie send the horse away to eat grass a few meters away.
"Here," He gave me his flask of Whisky and then sat next to me.
"It's really beautiful here," I looked around to take as many in as possible.
"It most certainly is," James smiled. "How does the Netherlands looks like?"
"Well less moutains, Well there are no mountains at all," I laughed and then thought.
The Netherlands looked completely different now, Belgium was still part of the Netherlands and it was now called Republic of the Seven United Netherlands.
A century ago the golden ages ended and great men like Michiel de Ruyter, Rembrand van Rijn and Johannes Vermeer where already death, Hell Antoni van Leeuwenhoek died 20 years ago in this time. Men that I studied for my studie almost 300 years from now.
"Oi Lass, what is on yer mind?' Jamie asked. "Yer very absent."
"I'm sorry, just a lot to progress," I smiled half. "Memories about home you know?"
He smiled weakly. "I ken, I can't not go home without risking my families life," I looked at him with a questioning look. "Price on my head."
"Forgot that," I stood up. "We should go home, before it gets dark,"
"Yeah we should," he whistles the horse back and I stepped up with ease knowing now how I needed to do it.
Jamie stepped up behind me and smiled. "Give the sign Lass."
I pressed my heels between the ribs. "Falbh!" and with that the horse sprinted away.
