The next morning it was buzzing with people in and around the house. Jamie and I stood infront of the entrance welcoming people and accepting the presents we got, to celebrated our return.
It's suprised me how quickly I accostumed to mine new role as Lady of Lallybroch and judging on the look on Jamie's face he was suprised as well.
He had now gone with Ian to collect the rent and I stood in a far corner, secluded of the rest, I didn't felt much for it to join the group of women Jenny was talking with. In the corner of mine eye I suddenly noticed that an father slapt his son acrossed the face and I walked towards it.
"Excuse me," I interfered with it. "I don't believe we met. Greer Fraser, Lady Broch Tuarach."
"I ken fine who ye are," he sarcastically said and bowed to his son to say something in Gaelic that didn't sounded friendly at all. He took the bread out of the boy's hand and laid it back.
"There is enough for everybody, your son can have one as well." I told him as I crossed mine arms and then looked at the boy. "Would you like to come with me?" I smiled friendly at him.
"He is staying wi' me," his father snapped.
"I only take him away from you for a few minutes, so you wouldn't have to watch him," I said back. The father hestatite for a bit and then gave me the boy. "What is your name?" I asked him.
"Rabbi, Mistress," He answered with a small voice.
"Well Rabbi, let's go to the kitchen and find you something to eat." I laid mine hand softly on the back of the boy' shoulder and let him through the crowed.
"Whit's this?" Jenny appeared and the boy walked to her.
"I saw his father beat him, just around the corner," I answered and I noticed that he touched his back. "May I have a look dear." I bended down and lifted up his shirt to see purple bruising.
"Weel, we ur aff tae fin' mrs Crook 'n' git ye washed 'n' something tae eat," Jenny took the boy and than looked at me. "Ta, Greer, fur getting him awa' fae his faither," She sounded for the first time she spoke to me friendly and she walked up the stairs with the boy.
"Whit happend?" Jamie suddenly asked me from behind.
"His father had beaten him," I spoke softly.
"Macnab?" He didn't sounded suprised.
Before I could ask him something he was stolen away from me to drink with the tenants again.I hadn't seen Jamie much that night and when I saw him he was drinking and laughing. Just a few minutes after midnight I had excused myself and went to bed while he stayed downstairs.
He went to bed when it was almost Sunrise, clearly drunk, he made a lot of noise when he tried to take his clothing out and when he sat down on the bed I almost launched of it.
"I saw elephants sit down with less force," I protested and I heared him say something in Gaelic. "English please,"
He bowed over me and shook me at the hip. "Mo Ghrádh, Noo ye'r a Scot, ye shuid wirk oan yer Gaelic," he letted me go to remove his boots.
He had spent the evening with MacNab, trying to talk with him about what happend this midday, but when that didn't work, he had turned to the physical way by apperantly beating him.
As I drifted of again, Jamie suddenly placed his head on mine side.
"God Jamie, You stink." I tried to push him away but he was to heavy.
"Hae ye truly seen an elephant?" he asked with a voice of a young boy who just got the present he wanted and I couldn't help but laugh.
When he was drunk he was not only noisy but also cute as hell.
"Yes, I could ride on it as well, but I refused." he letted out a chuckle and rolled then from mine shoulder down mine side to mine feets and fell asleep there. I smiled a little more when I realised he was going to wake tomorrow with an giantic hangover.
