"Tell me madam are you here by your own choice?" He asked directly at me and Dougal also looked at me.
Technically no if you look at the way how I came here, I did not travel back in time on my own will. But I knew he was not talking about that but about the fact that I was with the Mackenzie's. I tought deep before I gave my answer."I appreciate your concern, Lieutenant and I can assure you I am a guest of Clan MacKenzie," it was hard for me to form the words but I didn't want to risk my life and escaping opportunity.
Dougal smiled in an approving smile while I saw that Jeremy was not buying it.
"As you wish," he played along. "Nevertheless, I'm certain that mine commander will wish to speak to you. He's is presently in residence in a inn in Brockton, Will you accompany me?"
"Well, if the lady goes, I go," Dougal said and in my mind I swore so hard that the heaven could have fallen down on me.
"Very well then," I gathered my skirts walked out of the river to get my horse and ride with them. Hopefully closer to my escape to mine own time.We reached Brockton and I saw that Dougal stiff in his sadle.
It was on Colum's land but now in hand of the redcoats. This making Dougal a Outlander this time.
We reached the tavern and Jeremy turned to me.
"Follow me," he said and I followed him in to the tavern, up the stairs to a fancy dinning room.
"My lord, may I introduce you to Miss Greer von Holland and Mr Dougal..." he couldn't finish his sentence as the commander stood up.
"Come in, come in," the other men stood up as well and I smiled truely this time. "This is a happy suprise. A most enjoyable suprise." He stated. "It has been far to long since I last gazed upon a lovely woman." He took my hand and kissed it as I bowed my hand. "And a Dutch women nonetheless. The Lieutenant claimed you have quite the story to tell."
"I'm so grateful you willing to listen to it." I smiled back.
"No, nosense. I love stories," he said. "I've not heared a good one since I sat foot upon this blasted turf." I laughed a little. "You must be absolutely famished. I hope venison is to your liking," he walked me towards a chair which he pulled back. "Only the very best quality. I can assure you."
Not used to this kindness anymore I soaked it in like a sponge and felt my body warm up again.
"Thank you," I said from the top of my heart as I sat.
"I shot the beast myself," the commander told me proudly. "It's a great country for hunting, I give them that. The cheese us suprisingly edible to. Not that it could win from the Dutch version. And the claret is my own, bottled in '35, Need I say more?" He snapped his fingers as my stomach groweld.
I was very well aware of the presents of Dougal behind me but I paid no attention to it as a klerk filled up my glass.
"Now Lieutenant Foster, you're going to introduce me to this noble Scottish Gentleman," the commander said.
"My lord, may I present Dougal MacKenzie," Jeremy started as I took a sip of the Claret. "War chief to the clan MacKenzie and brother of the its Laird, you have the honor to Brigadier General Sir Oliver Lord Thomas, knight of the bath and commanding officier of the Nothern British Army."
"War chief aye?" Sir Oliver asked Dougal. "I'll say this to you, you looked the part." I almost chocked on the claret from the laughter I was holding in.
"A fine specimen of the local inhabitants. My lord," a man across me said.
"How am I to adress you sir?" Sir Oliver asked again.
"Ye kin call me MacKenzie. If in it please ye," Dougal sneered back. "Or if we're being formal. Ye kin call me Chief MacKenzie which in matters of war and bicker. Leaves us ower fae each other as equals dinnea ye ken," I didn't know if I wanted to slap Dougal around his ears or laugh.
The men at the table weren't so pleased by the rudeness in Dougal's voice.
"I don't know about the rest of you?" Sir Oliver said. "But I failed to understand a single word the creature said," he laughed.
"I believe my lord, he was attempting to say Chief MacKenzie would be acceptable," the same man for a minute ago said. "There was more, but I must confess, it elude me," now the other men started to laugh.
"Really... someone really ought to teach these people the king's English," Sir Oliver walked passed me as I sat uncomfortably in my chair as a laughter burst lose.
"I believe he speaks English Sir," Jeremy said. "Their form of English anyway," I looked at him.
"Well it's a form that is well defensive to the ears," Sir Oliver laughed.
"Sorry, but can I interrupt." I said and the looked at me. "There are some parts of England where the local accent is also defensive to the ears, from what i heared of the sailors when they visited my country" I smiled friendly and they looked suprised.
"You are right," Sir Oliver smiled. "That is a fine point madam. The world should all speak like Londoners,"
"If ye wished to here the Londoners speak, perhapes ye should stayed in London," Dougal said and I know he was close enough to place my elbow right in his gut.
The man wants to translate it again. "No need. I understood him," Sir Oliver said with a death glare. "If you behaved like proper British Subjects, I could return to more civilised areas again."
"Dougal don't," I hissed. "Please try not to fight each other like kids on the playground," I said louder.
"Yes, yes, the lady's sense of propriety puts us all to shame," Sir Oliver looked at me. "My word madam. I would commission you if I was brave enough as colonel. You know how to order men around,"
"Aye she does that." Dougal sounded proud.
"Well, it's been a delight meeting you, I would ask you to join us but as you could see, the table is quite full at the moment." Sir Oliver walked back towards his spot.
"Aye there serving good Scottish Ale down in the tap room," Dougal looked at. "I'll be downstairs Lass. One yell and I'm here," and with that he left the room leaving me all alone.A/N I'm thinking to write a Chris Evans Fanfic, since I have insparation for it, ofcourse i'm not going to forget this story, but let me know If your intrested
