First day of school. Students meander around the campus, talking about summer adventures, future plans, and failed flings. Bangtan High School is divided into cliques. At the top of the hierarchy stands The Jocks: muscle heads with big laughs and raunchy words. Their conversations mostly veer towards the number of girls they banged, the number of parties they crashed, and what their workout routine will be like for the next year. The Jocks are subdivided by sports: football players hang out by the football fields, swimmers and water polo players hang out in the courtyard by the pool, baseball players by the baseball pitch, and basketball players in the gym. Other popular cliques float around the school depending on their club activities. Literature Club hosts the nerds and writers, Art Club the painters and sculptors, and Drama Club the actors and musical singers. There are the less popular cliques like the Stoners and the Misfits, but the one that draws the most attention are the Punks. They consist of musicians and rappers, students who put off an I-Don't-Give-a-Shit attitude as they goof off around the school fountain; a gawdy marble thing that is supposed to show the prestige and grace of this sprawling high school.

Taehyung hurries onto the campus, surprisingly late for this usually good student. As Swim Captain and a member of the Baseball team, he knows he has to keep his grades and attendance up, but his alarm clock broke two nights ago, and he forgot to replace it. As long as he makes his first lecture, he should be totally fine. No one knows he ran onto campus after the second bell—the warning bell that tells students to hurry to their classrooms. Taehyung adjusts his red baseball cap, hiding his bright—easily recognizable—blond hair while sprinting down one of the halls. He has Advanced Lit with Mrs. Sprig, a nature-loving, tree-hugging sort of teacher who will spout useless facts about long-dead poets instead of teaching her students how to analyze literature properly.

All thoughts are knocked out of Taehyung's brain as he slams into a student, the impact and weight of his backpack causing him to instantly fall over on his butt. He groans, looking up at the student with a glare until he realizes who he just slammed into. Jeon Jungkook. A third-year student just like him and one of The Punks of the school. His red and black sweater is ripped aesthetically, exposing flexing biceps and shoulder as he leans over, reaching out for Taehyung to take his hand. Silently, Taehyung grasps Jungkook's calloused hand, letting him effortlessly lift him off the polished tile floors.
