Chapter 24 - Square zero

I entered the weapon shop.

"Excuse me, did a katana come in stock yet?"

"No."

"ha..."

Eh, I tried.

I casually just transitioned to a wears shop, there were many types of armors and clothing, but I really didn't need heavy armor. There was a glove that came into my sight. It was a leather glove that looked somewhat comfortable and edgy.

My hands were hurting pretty bad when I bashed monsters consecutively using Power Slash. It was perfect so I bought the glove after trying it on.

I wandered around and bought anything that I will be needing in the future such as a big travel pack, another water canteen, spare shoes, clothing to wear, coin pouch and a few more.

I bought two cute expensive accessories for the girls.

I waited at the waiting place and soon the two of them showed up, with Ashley wearing fancy new clothes.

"Eyyy, who is this beauty?"

"Shut up..."

Eri had a big bag carrying all the stuff.

"We had to buy a bag to carry all the stuff, you ok with that right?"

"NO! A BAG!? UNACCEPTABLE! Paying money for carrying bag!? You must have gone mad!"

Eri looked tired of my play.

"Heh, I'm funny."

Ashley was looking at me, with utter confusion.

"Don't worry about it, this is what youngs do these days."

"..."

"Yeah, no I'm just depressed that's all."

"What?"

"Anyways, you look great Ashley. And here's a present for both of you."

"Oh, thank you. Woah, these look expensive. How much were these?"

"Expensive. Like. Expensive."

I bought her a necklace. I honestly didn't know what to buy.

After trying to comment on it and failing to do so, she just accepted it with gratitude.

"Ashley, you should try it on too."

I bought Ashley a little hairpin that looked cute. With the help of Eri, she put it on her head. It fit well with her blonde hair.

"Perfect!"

"Thanks."

I gave her the thumbs up.

"Now let's drop off the stuff and grab some lunch."

After seeing how both of them were still tired from last night's incident, I changed the plan.

"Actually, instead of dropping off our stuff, why don't we just eat first and go back to the inn after."

They were fine with my suggestion.

"What do you want to eat Ashley?"

"Meat."

"Hm, let's have steak for dinner and we can have something else for lunch unless you really want meat right now."

"I'm fine either way."

This sassy little kid.

"Alright, let's just have a simple lunch then. Let's go to the bakery."

After finishing our food from the bakery, we returned and got everything sorted out. We gathered and started an important meeting including Serah.

"I'll get straight to the point. Serah can Ashley work here and be taken care of here?"

"As long as she works, no problem."

"Then Ashley, I want you to help around the inn and get used to living in here. Do you object?"

"As long as I get food and a place to sleep."

"Welp, that was simpler than I thought. Eri do you have any words?"

"No."

"Alright then, I guess the meeting's over. Uhhh, Please take care of Ashley from now on Serah."

I don't know how that all worked out, but... Ok.

"Anyway, now listen to Serah and her mother from now on."

"Okay."

Serah took Ashley and Eri and I remained.

"I was in no position to butt in, but still you spent that much money on her and you'll just let her go?"

"It was to save her, you never know what would've happened if I let her go."

"Still..."

"Well I could've killed those two, but they had no choice either, so I did what would save all of us. Or it should've."

"..."

"Well, that's just who I am I guess, anyway. You looked pretty tired, are you gonna rest?"

"I guess I will."

"Alright, then I'll do my things."

"What, making more trouble?"

"...I mean..."

"Joking, I'm off to the room."

"K."

I was finally left by myself at last. After checking the security, I felt the need to have some fun. I got to know a lot more about the world as I interacted with more people.

Day after day, I spent time collecting information. I also went around seeking entertainment in the town. But nothing beats reading mangas and watching Anime. The entertainment wasn't bad, they were just not what I was used to. The food was a different story though, the traditional food within the town tasted strange but was delicious. I got a deeper understanding of the world.

Time flew while I was enjoying not having my life on the line all the time. Like that, Sunday came rolling in.
