1 - Look Out For Bookworms

Recap:

"Cal, who was that?" I asked.

"Luke Hemmings." Calum said.

"How come I've never seen him before? He's hot."

"He is the most unpopular kid at the school, he's really nerdy. He's friends with Ashton Irwin and Natalie Fare. Those nerds." Calum said. "He really isn't worth your time."

Oh but, he was.

Michael's POV

I had not seen Luke since I disturbed him a week ago in the library. I kept my eye out, but it always seemed like I was either too distracted or he would just be invisible to the naked eye.

But today, I was sitting in lunch when the blonde came through the doors with the two brunettes.

"Hey, is that Hemmings?" I nudged Calum.

"Yeah."

"I think I'm going to go talk to him." I said and everyone at the table either bursted into laughter or started choking. "What?"

"Michael, he's a nerd." Vanessa said, crinkling her nose at the word 'nerd'. "You would be abnormally dumb to go over there."

"Well then I guess he can teach me a few things." I smiled and stood up from the table. I walked over to where Luke and his two friends sat. They were engulfed in deep conversation while Luke was reading a book probably three inches thick.

"Hello." I said and two looked at me with wide eyes while Luke continued reading.

"..Hello." Ashton said.

"Hi, Luke." I tried to get his attention but he just sighed and shook his head. "I don't know if you remember me, but I was the one in the library."

"Oh," Luke lifted his eyes to me. "So you were the person who was being obnoxiously rude and had too high of a volume inside a place of knowledge and silence in order to learn. You disturbed my thinking then, and now you have the audacity to do it again? I don't know whether or not you are impressive or simply stupid."

"Uh..Sorry?" I shrugged with a sheepish smile. Luke scoffed before turning back to his book. "So, you're like, really smart, right?"

"I do not wish to boast, but yes." He responded as he raised his eyes. "I have an understanding that you are not about to leave me in peace."

"Um..No." I smiled.

"Well, what do you need?" He sighed as he leaned forward on his hand.

"Just to talk." I shrugged. "Why are you so bitter?"

"I am not bitter, I just do not like being disturbed when I am reading, studying, or working." Luke explained.

"Oh, well when is a good time to disturb you then?" I smiled and leaned forward.

"By you? Never."

"What? Why?" I frowned. What was wrong with me?

"Michael..Is it?" He asked and I nodded. "Michael, you have to realize that we are not suppose to talk. I'm a minnow and you are a blue whale."

"Um..Is that a fat joke?" I asked.

"A fat joke.. What? No. It was a metaphor using sea creatures to show the difference in our social stature." Luke huffed. This conversation was not going so well..

"Couldn't you just say 'Hey you're really popular and I'm not.'?"

"I guess I could have.." Luke mumbled and slouched slightly in his seat. "My apologizes Michael, I do not mean to come off so rude. I just do not appreciate associating with people like you."

"Like me?" I asked. I did not understand. Should I be offended? What was wrong with me?

"The 'popular kids', many of you can be.. Very arrogant. I do not appreciate arrogance." Luke shrugs. He stood up from the table with his book. "It was nice to make your acquaintance Michael. Goodbye." Him and his friends left the old gray table and left me in a confused state. Did I just get denied? I walked back to my table and sat next to Calum.

"How'd it go?" He asked.

"It was..Weird.." I mumbled. I did not say it but, I like the weirdness. The way he talked, and the way he held himself. I did not understand what it was, but I liked his intelligence.

Helloooooo! So that was the first chapter, it's kinda short but it'll be like that for a little while. ITS JUST THE START.
