Chapter 25 - New Year

New Years is an underrated holiday. People don't get excited about New Years like they do Christmas.

But I like New Years. New Years is showing that you get a new start, and I definitely need one.

River has been happy all day, Pho and El went on a trip to see Pho's mom in Alleyah, so the party he's having will be toddler free. El said something to Pho earlier about getting to bring home Nico, I wonder who Nico is.

I sit on the couch while watching a show, waiting for Kingston to come down as I hear someone's steps come closer.

I look over, pausing my show as River e tees my peripherals.

"So Love, I might be changing you nickname again because I have realized your a bit of a wimp. So it is a toss up here, Baby, or Wimp?" He asks sarcastically as he leans forward on the back of the couch.

"Call me whatever you want." I say, disappointed and he throws himself back.

"Wow be more excited." He says sarcastically and I nod slowly, "I don't think I could."

"I am just gonna alternate I am to indecisive for this shit." He says, circling around the couch and sitting next to me. I lean on a pillow and put my feet into his lap.

"The party is starting in like five hours so I have to get up and start locking doors, sorry, Puppy." He says and I smile at him as he gets up, pointing to me, "You can go get ready if you want." He finishes as he leaves.

I look down at what I'm wearing, knowing that I'm just gonna stay in my room and try the piano.

I get up while I see River in the kitchen on his phone, texting somebody and getting out food. Slowly I walk up the stairs, flopping on my bed soon and looking at the ceiling.

The window is open, it's only two but River is rich and has to prepare so... I do too.

The party is going, people everywhere downstairs and lining the halls. Music can be heard clearly through the thin walls of the house as I sit on a bench in front of the piano.

I hit a key, and another, not knowing how to play piano well. Somebody knocks and then enters my room, making me turn expecting another drunk couple but seeing Kingston leaning against the now closed door.

"Drunk party girls are a lot." He says and I furrow my eyebrows at him with a chuckle, "Okay, Kingston," I start sarcastically "Like you don't love the attention."

"I never- I- what do you want me to say?" He says and I stare at him for a while, eyeing him with a look only he will know.

After a second of looking into each other's eyes, my glare having faded, he coughs and shakes his head while coming towards me. "Do you play the piano?" Kingston asks and I shake my head, glazing my fingers along the keys.

"I wanted to for a while because my sister played, but I can't do anything, let alone read sheet music."

He furrows his eyebrows, pushing my shoulders over to move me out of the way in the bench. He sits next to me, "I will teach you." He says softly, being my hand under his and pressing down a few keys.

"These are A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. They are the notes on any clef. Any of them can make a song, no sheet music required." He says and I look up at him, wary at that statement.
