Chapter 16: Do What You Gotta Do

Heidi's POV

Mal and I walk to a huge sign that says get lost at the top of it with a skull on front of it, "You weren't kidding when you said hidden." Mal says and I shake my head, "This was how I would sneak in and out of the Underworld without my dad or Hadie knowing." I say putting the key inside the lock and turning the key unlocking the gate, "Hey." Mal says as I look over at her, "How big is that dog?" She asks as I look behind me to see a sign that say 'Beware of dog!' with a picture of Cerberus in the middle and I just look at the poster before looking back at Mal with a sly smile on my face, "You'll see." I say as Mal and I open the gates and walk inside, "Okay, stay quite. It echoes, like crazy in here." I whisper knowing from personal experience. Mal slightly nods her head as the two of us head deep inside the cave. 

We make it the main entrance point of the passageway when all of a sudden super loud barking noise is heard and we turn around to see Cerberus slowly stalking his way over to us. "That dog is a lot bigger than I thought." Mal says as she slowly starts to back up and I just smile as I make my way in front of her and up to the large dog, "isn't it supper time for you big boy?" I ask him as I hold out my hand so Cerberus can smell me and know that I am not an intruder.Cerberus lowers his middle head and takes a sniff from my hand and once he knows that it is me he starts slowly walking away down another corridor.

"How are you not scared him, I know that any normal person would be deathly afraid of a dog that big and adding the fact that he has three heads makes it drop dead petrifying." Mal says as I turn around and smile at her, "Cerberus is the best and coolest dog anyone could ever ask for, plus growing up Cerberus was the one that made me feel better." Mal smiles back at me as the two of us make our way down the passageway. After a few minutes, Mal and I finally reach the end of the passageway and come up to a large wooden door, "Alright, this door leads to my dad's man cave which is directly above the river of fire." I push the wooden door open and just like I said the door reveals a small cave like room where my father spends most of his time, but in reality, the cave was my dad's way of make the best of a horrible situation. This cave is the one place that he didn't have to deal with Hadie or I, he could listen and either play air guitar or play his actual guitar to his rock and roll music as loudly as he wanted on an old record player I stole for him, he used to be able to watch TV but he can't anymore since he broke it, and he has Pain and Panic do his errands, run the restaurant, and get him whatever he needs. 

Mal and I walk further into the cave to see my dad passed out on the couch with his black sunglasses on. "Told you." I whisper as Mal and I carefully and quietly as possible walk down the steps as the sound of my dad snoring fills the room."I never would have taken Hades as someone who snores." Mal says as the two of us cover our mouths to muffle our laughter. I point to an old wooden end table that has the ember nestled on a saucer type thing. Mal and I finish walking down the steps as we start making our way over to him. I start making my way behind the couch while Mal makes her way in front of the couch, I manage to make it up extremely close to my dad when the sound of something crashing to floor and I look over at Mal to see that she had run into a table and knocked over all the odd things that were on the table. "What are you doing here?" My dad asks not moving and I am not sure if he is talking to me or to Mal, 

"I just thought that since I was here, that I would pay my god father a little visit." Mal says and I look at her dumbfounded because she nor my dad ever mentioned that Hades was Mal's god father. Hades slowly lifts his head to look at Mal through the sunglasses as I slowly start creeping my way towards the ember. "That was awful nice of you." I manage to get my hand on the ember but as soon as I do my dad quickly grabs my hand tightly making me jump a little as Mal just rolls her eyes knowing that we have been caught. Hades slowly turns around to face me and takes the ember out of my hand, he completely turns around resting his chin on his arm and stares at me through the black sunglasses,"Hi, dad." I say feeling a little emotional since this is first time that I have seen my dad in years.
