Chapter 5- "Tickets to AGT!"
SCARLETT POV
*Flashback*
The host, Mark Jameson, gave us our cue and we walked up to the stage. More like I walked up to the stage. But you get the picture. We got ready for our act. Surprisingly, Sarah's presence had the opposite effect on me. It kind of motivated me to do well and before I knew it, we were through with my 10 second solo without any glitches. Ha!
The next five minutes could have easily classified as the best five minutes in my life. Maybe the only thing that would top this is that time I got free books at Crossword. But otherwise, they were like right at the top.
Because all I saw through the performance was Sarah. She looked shocked. She didn't look like she expected someone like me to have friends, let alone put up a routine. The other judges were merely nodding and whispering stuff to each other. The whole act was pretty smooth. I missed my cue thrice and Emmett fumbled once, but besides that, we were great.
We ended our dance with a cute pose and were greeted by deafening applause from our audience. Needless to say, the feeling was great. And the admiration was mutual. I mean, there had been one point when I'd expected the audience to throw tomatoes at us. This was like a dream!
I wore a smug look on my face as we walked down the stage. Mission Accomplished! The guys pulled us in for a group hug, and for once, I had no objections. I am not really a hugger, but then was I some performer? I was breaking all my rules, anyway.
*An hour and a half later. The results are announced*
Mark Jameson walked upon the stage, a sickly sweet smile plastered upon his face. Now that the initial excitement of our performance had worn out, we were all anxious for the results. It was just a headache I wanted to get over with. The crowd started chanting "Results, Results, Results, Results," as Mark opened his mouth.
"Good Evening Westridge High! This was a great show today. What say?" he screamed. Typical host shit. Why do they even do this? "Just get on with the results, already" Adrian said, her voice spilling with sarcasm. I smiled, in spite of being impatient myself. Furious people are fun to watch. But only as long as they aren't mad at you. If they're mad at you, especially if Adrian is mad at you, you might as well be prepared to spend the night at the ER. She does have a temper, that girl does!
The crowd paid no attention to Mark's feeble attempt. They just chanted about the results until they could successfully drone him out. I thanked my stars. The crowd was surely going to be in my good books now, no matter what.
"Okay, Okay, so now I'm going to give you guys what you came here for. I'm going to give you the Top 7!"
The crowd cheered. Some of them started guessing. It was complete pandemonium until Mark held up a hand to shush the crowd. This time round, they complied. It's amazing what power a bunch of names can give you, isn't it?
"So, this year, there's a twist in the tale. The top 7, the 7 most amazing performances today, will get a free ticket to this season's Judge's round of America's Got Talent!"
The crowd went wild. A group of boys in the front went berserk with joy. It was like they'd already won or something. As for us, we just sat there gaping. We had no idea what we'd gotten ourselves into. Sure, dancing for a high school talent show, in front of high-schoolers was one thing... But dancing in America's FREAKIN' Got Talent? That was a completely different thing altogether.
"Hey, Scar, we never planned for this.. Evan and I may be good but I don't think we're this good. What do we do if we get into the Top 7 now?" Allie asked.
