Chapter 7- "Can you swap our classes for us?"

SCARLETT POV

"What is my new fourth period class?" he enquired, looking genuinely interested.

"English with Mrs O'Connell. Can you swap our classes for us?" I looked up, asking the guidance counsellor.

She nodded, gesturing for us to have a seat on one of the worn down plastic chairs in the room. As I walked to the chair, Nathan immediately took a chair near to me, obviously with the intention of making small talk. He cleared his throat awkwardly.

"Don't you want to know what your new class is?" He asked.

"As long as it isn't English with Mrs. O'Connell, I'll live." I replied in a deadpan tone.

"Why? Do you hate English so much? You have American Government with Mr. Anderson, by the way." He informed me.

"Nah, it's not that. English, I happen to love. It's just..." I trailed off, unsure if I should continue.

"Just what?" He prompted.

"Forget it! I don't even know you yet!!" I stated, as it suddenly hit me I hadn't seen him around and I didn't even know who he was.

"Fair enough. I'm Nathan Cullen. And you are?" he asked, his hand outstretched. I shifted uncomfortably in my position. My experience of interacting with boys was limited. It showed. On the other hand, Nathan was someone I felt like talking to. I decided to go for it.

"Scarlett Woods. And you're a Cullen, as in?" I enquired, mentally face palming myself. This is probably why no one spoke to me.

"A Cullen as in a Cullen. Yep, from Twilight. I'm Team Jacob. You are? He answered.

I looked at him in awe. Never before had a guy with the exception of Evan, Emmett, Jonathan, Matt and Oliver shown any interest in talking to me, let alone talking to me about books like Twilight. And believe it or not, those five guys also never spoke about Twilight. Per se, this was my first conversation with a member of the opposite sex about a book series as romantically inclined as Twilight.

"Team Edward. All the way." I answered, eager to keep it going. No one with the exception of Susan and  Jenna (my other friends) spoke to me about Twilight. Excitement pulled me.

"Well, now that we know about each other's fandom preferences, would you mind telling me why you're so eager to switch classes?" He questioned.

I chuckled at his curiosity, "Well, since you asked me for the second time, I'll tell you this much: I'm trying to avoid a guy. Why are you switching your class?" I asked him in response before he could make me tell him more about Jonathan.

"Just trying to get rid of my cousin. She's our age and she's as annoying as they come. Won't stop trying to help me make friends!" He complained, pouting.

I started laughing and Nathan looked a little put out, but the twinkle in his eye told me he wasn't offended at all.

"Seems to me like you're doing a good job with me so far." I threw in casually.

"Thanks!", he replied with an eager smile, before he switched the topic to Twilight once more.

If we were going to do this, Nathan should definitely watch out; he was trying to compete with a hopeless romantic who probably had half the dialogues of the series learnt due to excessive re-reading.
