Going to the Tower of Fate

Today's the first time in about a week or two that I've been out of my room for more than food. After finding out that my brother was here, on Earth, something inside cracked and broke loose. I've been spending day after day locked inside my room, meditating on the floor with his mask in front of me, trying to figure out what inside fell apart. I never opened the door when anyone knocked, which was mostly M'gann and Kaldur, and I rarely ever answered them. Once or twice, they'd barge in to check on me, but I barely acknowledged them.

Today, however, something felt... wrong. As if something bad was going to happen today that I needed to see or be apart of. So instead of meditating, I got up and left my room, going to the training room where I could hear everyone hanging out at. Kaldur and Superboy are standing in the middle of the arena, sparring. I go to stand by M'gann, away from Artemis. I don't exactly like her right now, team mate or not.

Everyone turns to look at me, a look of shock passing their faces. I roll my eyes, crossing my arms across my chest. "You act like I've disappeared for a year." I mutter, but they all hear some how or other. I glance at Kaldur, and quickly look away blushing. They get back to sparring.

"Kaldur's, uh, nice, don't you think?" Artemis asks us as we watch the two boys. I look over at her. "Handsome. Commanding. You should totally ask him out." She comments. "He's like a big brother to me." M'gann states, "But I know him and Emma are pretty close." I look at her. "What do you mean?" I ask. "Who's Emma?" Artemis asks. "My alias." I state, staring at the Martian girl. "Megan. What do you mean?" I ask sternly. She blushes. "It's just that, you two are really close. A-and he's the only one you really let touch you." She tells me. I start thinking, and what do you know, she's right.

"You know who would make the cutest couple? You and Wally." She says, attempting to change the subject. We all look over to where he's eating a burrito. I roll my eyes, but M'gann does have a point. They'd be pretty cute together. "You're so full of passion, and he's so full of, uh... of-" "It?" Artemis asks, jokingly. They both laugh while I only smile.

I hear a loud thud, and look over to see Kaldur'ahm laying on the ground, a status screen stating that he failed. "Black Canary taught me that." Superboy states. A hatch opens from over the training area, and Red Tornado comes flying down. Wally super speeds up to him as he goes to leave.

"Do you have a mission for us?" He asks. He's quickly shot down. When will they learn? "Mission assignments are the Batman's responsibility." He states. "Yeah. Well, the Batman's with the Robin, doing the dynamic duo thing in Gotham, but you're headed somewhere, right?" He asks, "Hot date or a-a misión?"

"If we can be of help..." Kaldur says. Red looks at us, especially me it feels like, before turning around to bring up a screen with a picture of Kent. "This is Kent Nelson, a friend. Dracona already knows him, due to past events. He is 106 years old..." He informs us. "Guy doesn't look a day over 90." Wally mutters. I hear and roll my eyes at his comment.

"And he has been missing for 23 days." My head snaps back to Tornado, confusion and worry clouding my mind. "Kent was a character member of the Justice Society, the precursor to your mentors' Justice League." "Of course. Nelson was Earth's Sorcerer Supreme." "Doctor Fate." I state, staring at the screen.

"More like Doctor Fake." I hear Wally whisper to Artemis, scoffing, "Guy knows a little more advanced science and 'Dumbledores' it up to scare the bad guys and impress the babes." I turn to glare at him, keeping my mouth shut as to avoid spewing fire at him for being so disrespectful. I feel my eyes turning into their draconic counterpart beneath my mask, and I huff as I turn back around to Red Tornado. I walk over to where Kaldur is standing, and try to cool down.

"Kent may simply be on one of his walkabouts, but he is caretaker to the Helmet of Fate, the source of the doctor's mystic might, and it is unwise to leave such power unguarded." Tornado continues. I roll my eyes. "As if the tower's not enough protection." I counter. "In any case, Dracona, the League thinks it'd be best to at least check on Kent, and the helmet." He tells me. I roll my eyes, stepping forward, closer to him.

"Why the kalyja am I only now just hearing about this, Tornado?" I growl. "The League didn't wish to worry you unless we were sure this was a serious matter." He tells me. "A serious matter?! The only family I have in this realm and the League doesn't bother to tell me he's missing!" My monotone voice cracks and grows louder. I can feel my fists growing warmer, and it's only a matter of time before I lose my cool.

"He's like the great sorcerer priests and priestesses of Mars. I would be honored to help find him." M'gann states, placing a hand on her chest. "Me, too." Wally says, raising his hand. This pisses me off even more. "So honored I can barely stand it. Magic rocks." I growl under my breath, only Kaldur being able to hear me. He looks over at me, before looking back at Wally.

I turn and head for the bioship's dock. "Where are you going, Dracona?" Tornado questions. "I've had enough of this. I'm going to the tower to make sure Kent's ok. Asha! And Kent wonders why I don't trust the torushun League! You're all preatuvichen!" I call back to him. I'd stopped in the doorway. "It is unwise to go alone, Dracona, even if you call the tower your home. The team will go with you." Red tells me. I huff and look away. I hate this damned android.

Stupidly, he walks over to me. "Take this." Red states, handing a key to me. I stare at it for a second before realizing what it opens. I close my hand, and hide it inside my cloak. "It is the key to the Tower of Fate." We go to leave, and I hear Wally still flirting with Megan. I growl again. I feel a hand on my shoulder, stopping me as the others go on. I turn to see Kaldur looking at me concerned.

"Emma, what is wrong?" He asks. I shake my head. "Just Wally." I state, looking away. "What did he do?" I look into his eyes. "He doesn't believe and he's pretending to so that he has something in common with M'gann. He's insulted Kent, and Fate, and he's insulting me." I tell him. "Wally will be Wally. There's nothing we can do about that, Emma." He tries to advise me. "I know that, Kaldur. Trust me, I do. But Kent and Fate are like fathers to me, and I don't respect those who scorn the ones I love."

I turn and walk over to where the others are waiting by the ship, Kaldur following a ways away. I take off my cloak and hand it to Megan. "Please take this into the bioship for me. I don't feel like sitting down right now. Just make sure to follow me at all times." She takes it, nodding. "Are you alright, Emma?" She asks. I shake my head, refusing to answer. "And how are you going to get to our destination if you're not in the ship?" Artemis asks. I don't answer her either, walking over to the edge of the landing area. "Red Tornado. Open the bay doors." I call. They open, and as the others get into the ship, I jump off the edge, plummeting towards the shallow water below. Five feet above the water level, I catch myself, soaring up high before leaving the cave.
