What Is This Pain?

I open my eyes, and smile as I see my teammates standing in front of me once more. "Thank you, M'gann." I tell her, before looking down at Kaldur once more, my face changing from relief to concern as I kneel down once more to place his head on my knees. "M'gann, can you wake him up, can you help him remember?" I ask as they all come to stand around us, Miss M kneeling down by Kaldur.

He starts speaking in Atlantian again, saying something about wanting to be with Tula in Atlantis. I look away, an unknown pain filling my heart once more. 'Where does this keep coming from?' I wonder. "There he goes again." I state. "What?" Kid asks. "He's been randomly speaking Atlantian since I found him a few hours ago." I state.

"Why didn't you help him?" He questions. I roll my eyes. "I didn't know who he was. I'd only met one other Atlantian before Kaldur, and we ended up trying to kill each other; seeing as how the last one was Aquaman, King of Atlantis, I tend to be a little weary around Atlantians." I state, glaring. "I only trust Kaldur because one, when I met him, I was with Dr. Fate, and two, he's our teammate and leader, and has earned my trust." Kid looks away, but I can't read the expression on his face. I turn back to Miss M. "Can you help him?" I ask again.

"I can't restore his memories in this condition." She tells us. "He needs immediate rehydration. Call the bioship." Robin says. "It's out of range, but you can get him there fast." M'gann states, looking over at Kid. "He's too heavy, and I'm too low on fuel. Right now, I couldn't even carry her." Kid tells us. Artemis scoffs, elbowing him. "Why not just levitate him back?" She asks. "I can't. I have to find Superboy." M'gann states, standing up, "6 months ago, he didn't exist. He has no memories- just animal impulse. I'm the only one who can help him.."

"Superboy's indestructible. Just ask those tanks. It's Aqualad who needs your help. Like, now." Kid tells her. Miss M grips at her head, groaning. "No! Superboy's in pain! We can't wait!" She yells out, flying off. "Miss Martian, wait!" I yell out. "We still don't know what erased our memories! It could happen again!" Robin yells as well.

I sigh. "Asha, I'll carry him." I say, setting his head back on the ground as I stand up. "Wait, Dracona, are you sure you can even lift him? Even if I had all my strength back, it'd be difficult even for me." Kid states as I move to Kaldur's side, bending down. With one arm under his back, and the other under his knees, I heave him up with ease. I look at him, and discover all three of them staring, dumbstruck. "Wha- bu- H-How?" Kid stutters.

"Dragon strength." I answer, turning to walk away, towards the bioship. "Didn't you know? I've gone against Superman once, and I won. Now come on, I have no idea where the bioship is." Within seconds, they're walking by my sides, Robin giving directions every few minutes or so. I hear a slight whimper, and look down at my feet to see the little animal walking beside me. I smile down at it.

"Woah, where'd that come from?" Artemis asks, looking down at it. I look up at her. "It's been with me since I woke up. I followed it to where Kaldur was. I don't know what it is, but it seems to like me." I tell her. Robin pulls something up on his glove. "It's a fox." He says, pulling up information on the critter. "A fennec fox, to be exact." I tilt my head. "There are more than one kind of fox?" I ask. He nods, looking at me incredulously. "Yeah, you didn't know that?" I shake my head.

"I only ever thought that there was the red fox with the red fur, and the white tips on their tails." "That's a red fox, Dracona. There are plenty of other types of foxes in the world." Kid tells me. "Hmm." I hum, thinking. "Do you think I'd be in trouble if I took it home with me?" I ask. "He seems to really like me." "I see no harm in it." Artemis says.

Robin looks back at his glove again, and quietly, he says, "Quick, over there." We run over to hide behind a huge rock, just as a truck full of soldiers with guns passes by us. "Tula denamata eta en Atlantis seba ose." Kaldur rambles once more. Another pain strikes my heart, and I look away as Artemis puts her hand on his head. "Shh. Kaldur'ahm, quiet now."

Kid notices my expression. "Dracona, what's with that look?" He asks me. "He's talking about a girl back in Atlantis. From what little Atlantian I can understand, he really likes her." I state. "Alright, but what about that face you're making? You look like you're in pain." He questions. I shake my head.

"I don't know what it is, but I've been feeling this pain in my chest sometimes when he's around. I don't understand it." I say. Artemis smirks knowingly at me. "What's with that look?" I ask her. "I'll tell you later." She says. I sigh.

Robin shushes us before looking over the rock. I don't have to look to know that there are soldiers marching passed, no doubt looking for us still. He kneels back down to speak to us. "We can't risk a firefight with Aqualad KOed like this." "It's not just him. I'm way out of juice." Kid tells us. "And I'm almost out of arrows." Artemis adds in. I sigh. "If I wasn't carrying Aqualad, I'd do it for you guys." I mutter. I turn from them to see Robin has disappeared once again.

"Ugh. I forgot how much I hate it when he does the ninja thing." Kid says, noticing Robin not being there either. "Hey, you never said why your dad would want you to ktttk! me." He says to Artemis, pretending to slice his neck with his hand. "I got confused by some old movie I saw the other night. About a ninja girl whose ninja dad ordered her to kill her ninja boyfriend 'cause he was from a rival ninja clan." Artemis says.

I smirk, fully knowing that she was lying, but I'd keep quiet about it for now, to keep from embarrassing her in front of Kid. Even if she may not show it, I know that she's secretly crushing on him, despite them constantly fighting, and her acting like she doesn't like him at all.

"So, I'm your ninja boyfriend, huh?" "Hey, amnesia, remember? Completely forgot how truly annoying you are." Artemis states, trying hard to hide the fact that she was now blushing. Whether or not Kid saw it, I could see that her aura was turning a scarlet rose red from blushing in the inside. "Oh, like you're the goddess of congeniality." Kid remarks, his aura turning orange in annoyance.

"Yeesh. Get a room." Someone says. I turn to see Robin has reappeared once more. I'm surprised that I got so caught up watching these two, that I didn't notice Robin coming back. "Dude, where were you?" Kid asks, even more annoyed. "Breaking radio silence." He says, turning to watch the soldiers walking away. Laughter, Robin's laughter, comes from a few sand dunes away from them, and they go running over. Then, an explosion of smoke comes from their direction, and I get a better idea of what happened. Robin planted smoke bombs. "That's our cue. Move!" He says, and we all go running away from the soldiers and the huge smoke cloud.
