Katie's POV:

Am I actually insane or just very dedicated?

Or just insane.

I think I'm insane.

I'm driving a car I've never driven before, to one of the biggest cities in the country which I've never been to, and we've got a bunch of shit and food in the back like we're leaving civilization. Not to mention it's 3am and I haven't slept in 20 hours. No one even knows where we're going. I never thought to tell anyone. They'd just try to stop us anyway.

I'm gonna get us both killed, I just know it.

"You're..." Emily's mom started speaking and I looked at her beside me, only taking my eyes off the road for a moment. Whatever she was trying to say I hope it's reassuring because I have no faith in myself right now. "You're amazing, I hope you know that. What you're doing is amazing." She said.

I smiled and looked back at the road.

"I mean it, most people wouldn't do something as irrational as this." Mrs. Manon chuckled a bit before looking back at the road ahead.

I could never let anything happen to Emily. I promised her that.

"Katie!" A voice shouted from the backyard. I ran to my bedroom window and saw Emily standing below my window.

"Hang on a sec." I answered and stepped out onto the window sill, using the shrub that my dad was too lazy to trim to climb down.

"You know, I could have just climbed up to see you." Emily crossed her arms.

I quickly noticed the cut on the side of her face. "What's going on?" She shrugged. She didn't want to say it. "Is that why you're here?"

She nodded.

We sat down together on the bench swing. "I wish you could just move in with me." I sighed. "Why can't your mom just leave?"

"It's not that easy. There's all kinds of legal stuff that you and I don't understand. That's what she says anyway."

"Someday you won't have to worry about all this because we're going to move in together."

"Our very own place." Her sad expression turned into a bright smile.

"Yep." I stood up and picked up a Nerf ball, tossing it to her. She stood up and we began tossing the ball back and forth.
