Alina

I walked home alone not looking at anything. The cold breeze outside made me shiver. I sniffed and huffed all the way home until I was standing right in front of the pack house. I stood in front of the house and dabbed my palms on my face trying to get myself together.

It wasn't worth it. I knew I looked like some Halloween ghost who ran out of makeup. However, I couldn't help but let out a sigh as I summoned enough courage to walk inside the house.

I sprinted inside, successfully reaching my room without being noticed by anyone and let out another sigh. I was frustrated and hurt. My wolf was in pain and I wasn't liking it at all. My heart clenched at the thought of him being with another she-wolf.

We don't always get what we want.

Maybe that was the main reason why my mate turned out to be a guy like him. I couldn't really change fate nor could I complain. The best thing for me to do right now was to comply with whatever fate had in store for me.

How can you be so calm at a situation like this? — My wolf asked.

I'm not but I am trying to be. I sighed.

My wolf didn't reply instead she let out a painful whimper making me flinch at the sound of it.

What's wrong? — I asked feeling anxious.

Mate is with another. —She whimpered.

I felt a sudden knot turn inside my stomach as I stood there processing what my wolf had just said. It was a similar pain that I had felt earlier. It was unbearable and felt as if my insides were burning.

Why does it hurt? I rejected him then what's the problem?

The bond is making us feel the pain. — She explained.

I think mate will mark another.

Let him. We don't need him. —I comforted her.

But why?

Stop whimpering. He is not worth it. —I snapped.

I laid down on the bed and closed my eyes. In hopes that the pain would soon fade away. I couldn't stop the tears trickling down my cheeks until my eyes became heavy and everything around me blacked out.

James

I groaned as the rays of the sunlight hit my face. I rolled on the bed in order to block the rays off when suddenly my palm comes in contact with a body lying next to me. I opened my eyes, rapidly blinking, trying to adjust with the sudden bright atmosphere. I looked at the body sleeping next to me to see Hailey's brown hair scattered all around her pillow. Suddenly the image of a familiar blonde popped inside my head. I stared at her looking so peaceful while sleeping next to me.

I wondered whether Hailey had come across her mate yet. If she did then what would happen? Would he accept her even after everything she has done behind his back with me?

Would she replace me instead? My heartfelt heavy at the thought. I didn't want her to leave.

I moved a little on the bed to find myself naked beside Hailey. For a second I felt guilty about what I did last night. I shrugged the thought off it and picked up my boxers from the floor and put it on while trying not to wake Hailey up. I headed inside the bathroom and turned the shower on. I couldn't help but cringe at the thought of Hailey's smell all over me. This was rare. I never felt disgusted about my sex life with Hailey but now here I was trying to rub the guilt right off of me.

I sighed as Alina's face appeared in my thoughts. I couldn't help but think about her current situation right now. Was she regretting the decision of rejecting me? I think she probably was. Honestly, I didn't believe in love at first sight or anything like that. The thing that reminded me of her was the bond we had. I knew she rejected me and all but the mate bond was a hard thing to get rid of. Although I believed settling down with different mates would slowly break the bond.

I never understood this entire 'mate' thing. I turned the shower off, dried myself and put on some clean clothes. I looked at the mirror and rested my hand on the counter in order to pick up my rings and groaned as I came in contact with a blade which was lying on top of the sink. I watched as blood poured out of my palm. I washed my hand with water and headed out of the bathroom. I looked around to see Hailey still lying on the bed without having moved a muscle. I covered her naked body with the duvet and walked out of the room, closing the door behind me. I saw Drake glaring at me from a distance.

"What is it?" I asked feeling uncomfortable under his continuous glare.

"I don't even know what to say anymore." He shook his head.

"What do you mean?" I narrowed my eyes.

"I am not going to say anything. Do whatever you want." He huffed, turned his back towards me and started walking away.

I sighed and was about walk out of the house when some pack member called from behind.

"James!"

I turned to see a female pack member standing behind me whose name I didn't quite remember.

"Luna wants to talk to you." She informed.

"Okay." I nodded and made my way towards mom's room.

I knocked on the door and headed inside.

"You called?" I asked to see mom sitting near the dressing table while dad was reading a book lying on the bed.

"Yes, did you find your mate?" She asked with her usual smile.

"Oh-Uhm, Not yet" I lied through gritted teeth. I couldn't tell them the truth if I did it would create more problems for me.

"Where are those filthy rings of yours?" Dad frowned keeping the book beside him and looking at me.

"I took them off," I replied calmly.

"Why?" He asked with his usual tone of authority.

"Honey, don't." Mom interrupted.

"I have to go. I'll catch up with you two later." I waved as I hurriedly turned on my heels and headed out of the room.

I rushed out of the house to see Drake waiting inside the car drumming his fingers on the steering wheel as usual.

"Sorry for being late." I exhaled as I hopped inside the passenger seat.

He nodded in response and started the engine.

"Fuck." I cursed.

"What happened?" Drake looked at me.

"I forgot to wake Hailey up." I groaned.

"Don't worry. I did" He answered.

For a second I felt glad for covering her with the duvet before leaving the room.

I also wondered whether I'd get to see Alina today.

What do you think? —I asked my wolf.

He didn't reply. The weird part was I couldn't sense my wolf at the back of my mind.
