Rose, Nixon and Winters were stood watching a group of men from easy company play basketball when a car parked in the middle of the road and Evans stepped out holding a piece of paper, "lieutenant winters" everyone saluted to each other and the paper was held out towards him "with captain sobels compliments sir" Once the paper was grabbed the soldier went back to the car and drove away, leaving a confused group of people. Rose looked towards winters with a questioning look as he opened it, "oh for crying out loud" Winters whispered as rose lent over Nixon to read the paper "he misspelled court martial" Nixon stated which caused rose to giggle slightly, Winters looked towards rose with an annoyed look which caused rose to lay her head on Nixon's shoulder to hide her giggle. Nixon smiled at his friend and patted rose on the back.

Rose spent the rest of the day helping the Golding family and then found herself talking with Martin who was telling her about the mess easy company found themselves in but they were interrupted by Sobel's runner telling rose that Sobel needed her.

Rose was stood before Sobel as her looked at her up and down, "i would like you to help lieutenant Winters in the kitchen, after all you should be an expert in that department" rose stood shocked for a moment before reaching towards the paper that was in Sobel's outstretched hand "expert?" she asked even though she knew what he was going to say "you are a women, all women are experts in the kitchen are they not?" Sobel's judging eyes looked over rose, who face had hardened with emotions "not all, sir" with that she turned and headed to Winters to help with the food.

Rose was angrily throwing boxes down from the food truck as Winters counted them "i can't believe he said that" she grumbled after telling Winters the story of how she got to doing this job "I can" he replied with a sympathetic smile. The pair was interrupted from their conversation by a group of easy company's NCO's marching past them, they saluted as they past and Winters turned towards rose who shrugged her shoulders in return.

That night rose lay in her bed as John Martin tried to get her to talk to him, "please, i know i should have told you but it needed to be done" rose turned on her side and looked at her friend "i know but... but you could have been killed" John walked to the young girls bed and sat down, he hugged her when she sat up "i know but a good thing has come out of it, Sobel has been reassigned and we'll probably get someone like Meehan to replace him" rose nodded and laid back down as John made his way back to his bed. They had to share a room but neither of them minded as they had done before and rose saw John Martin as an older brother or father figure.

Rose held up the letter she had received from the pacific, Martin turned his head "what's that?" Rose turned to him before opening the letter and began to read it "a letter from Eugene" because of Skip's big mouth everyone in easy company knew about Eugene Sledge, the marine from Rose's home town who was always on her mind.
