Rose was crouched next to a foxhole that held a new replacement, Julian, and Babe "you two alright?" the pair nodded at the Medic as Spina made his way over "it alright if Babe comes with me to 3rd Battalion?" he asked which caused Babe to jump out of his foxhole and began to walk away with Spina "you alright on your own?" Rose asked the young boy who looked at the medic "yes ma'am" Rose smiled slightly and told the replacement "call me Tiny" with that the medic walked way to another foxhole.

It was finally time for food and Rose found herself sat with Malarkey, Skip, Penkala, Babe and Julian who were all joking about 'Hinkle' a german soldier Babe had basically fallen on top off while getting supplies with Spina. Rose looked over at Roe who was smoking by himself next to a tree listening to the laughter, Rose took a bite of the stale cracker like thing she had been given as Malarkey lent on her for support so he didn't fall off his seat laughing which caused Rose to start giggling as Skip's laugh was very contagious. Easy companies cook, Joe, moved around the group putting a little bit of slop in each soldiers cup like bowl and began to walk away when Malarkey asked "Joe be honest, what's in these things?" "nothing you won't eat Malarkey" Skip looked towards Rose with a smile "i won't eat Malarkey" Rose burst out laughing while covering her face with her free hand, she felt herself begin to fall to the side but was stopped by Penkala. Babe took a bite of his food and said "i should have shot him when i had the change" the conversation was cut off by lieutenant Peacock "has anyone seen lieutenant Dike?" Rose took out her last packet of Lucky Strikes and her lighter as Malarkey answered "try battalion CP sir" Peacock walked away as Rose lit up a cigarette and passed the packet to Skip who grabbed one "try Paris" he said as he passed the packet to Malarkey "try Hinkle" Don said as he grabbed one and passed it on. Penkala stood and tries to imitate Dike "hinkle sweetie i'm home" he grabbed a cigarette before he sat back down as Babe turned around "hey Eugene, lieutenant Dike's got a full aid kit try him" Malarkey looked towards the medic and joked "i'm sure he's not using it" then he turned to Rose "maybe you should send Tiny, he will definitely give the kit up then" Rose looked to her friends who began to laugh "what?" she asked confused "Dike would give you anything if you asked Tiny" Skip said. "he's scared shittless of you" Penkala added and then a lightbulb went on in Rose's head "is that why he's always so nervous and weird around me?" she asked and all of her friends looked towards her and nodded "oh" Rose looked of into the distance and then her head spun back around to her friends "am i really that scary?" she asked but they all just looked at each other and then looked at the ground before they ignored her question and began to talk about Hinke again, "guys?" rose asked but she just got ignored. Rose looked over at Roe who was smiling down at the ground "geney, am i scary?" she asked sounding like a little girl talking to her parents, Roe looked up quickly with wide eyes and began to stutter not knowing what to say but Rose knew what they all wanted to say, that was "yeah you are scary"

The sun had gone down and Roe and Rose were doing their nightly rounds leaving Spina to try and get some sleep "Geney, go see Dike and see if he does have an aid kit" she ordered and Roe began to walk in that direction "sure thing Rose" he said. Rose was walking around when she heard Babe begin to cough "Heffron, you alright?" Roe asked slightly running after him as Rose came to a stop in the middle of them "Eugene, what is with the Heffron bullshit?" Babe asked as he threw his gloves to the floor "you know my name why don't you use it?" Rose looked between the pair and smiled as she knew Eugene rarely called anyone by their nickname, it took her years for him to stop calling her Rosaline. "it's Edward right?" Rose almost let out a laugh as Babe's head flung up to look at the medic "edward? are you serious?" Roe looked at Babe "only the goddamn nuns called me Edward" Babe said with disbelief which caused Rose to turn away and giggle as she walked towards the front line where Toye and Mcclung sat watching the line. Rose crawled to the apir and lay on her belly "hey, you two alright?" she asked "yeah we got hot food can you smell it" Rose rolled her eyes and then looked down into the hole "Joe where are your boots?" she asked as she felt Roe crawl next to her "watch the line Mcclung" Toye ordered as he turned to talk to the medics "what happened?" Roe asked and Toy turned back around to watch the line while answering "i took them off to dry my socks and then they got blown to hell" Rose reached into her pocket and pulled out a cloth "here split this and then wrap it around your feet until we can get you some boots" Toye nodded "what's your size?" Roe asked while Rose began to back away "9 just like everybody else" Roe began to back away with Rose and when they far enough from the front they stood and ran in different directions.

Rose soon found herself wondering around trying to find a foxhole to sleep in, that is until Martins voice stopped her "hey, tiny" Rose made her way over to Martin's foxhole where he sat alone, Rose didn't ask all she did was jump in and snuggle into the man who wrapped a blanket around her and instantly fell asleep, Rose on the other hand looked up at the sky and watched as night turned into day.
