Night turned into another day and Rose was sat with Roe watching the German front line, when loud rumbles filled the air and tanks emerged from behind the trees, Rose sat forwards a bit getting ready to jump out of the foxhole if she needed to and Lip ran past the pair "its gonna get real busy for you two soon" Rose looked towards Roe and they nodded to each other both getting ready to help. The sound of machine guns being loaded filled the air until "medic" Rose was about to jump up but Roe stopped her "i'll go" and with that he was off and Rose waited for the next shout. Rose ran off to the sound of a replacement shouting medic he had been shot in the shoulder, she quickly bandaged him up "get back off the line someone will fill in for you" Rose quickly shoved the replacement backwards "follow lip" she ordered when she saw Lip and Roe dragging smokey. Rose then sat and waiting for someone else to need a medic.

Roe had come back from bastogne while everyone was lined up waiting for food, "he was paralyzed" Roe stated as he sat down next to Rose "smokey?" she asked while looking at the other medic who nodded "get some food" Rose ordered as she stood and made her way over to Malarkey and Penkala who were waiting for Skip to get food, Malarley held out a cup as Rose approached him but Rose was stopped by Winters "he alright?" he asked while looking at Roe "yeah" Rose answered "i think everything's just getting on top of him" Winters nodded and Rose walked the rest of the way to her friends and grabbed the food from Malarkey "thanks Don" she said as she began to eat.

A jeep drove towards the group and Sink got out and started to walk towards Winters "i could sit down for a christmas dinner back at back at division CP but i'll be damned if i don't like old joe's ransid arse beans better, hello easy company" "hello sir" was his reply, Sink talked with Winters for a bit before he got everyone's attention "men and woman" Sink looked directly at Rose before he began to speak, reading from a piece of paper "general wishes us all a merry christmas, whats merry about all of this you ask, just this, we've stopped cold everything that had been thrown at us from the north, east, south and west, now two days ago the German commander commanded our honorable surrender, save the US troop from total annihilation, the German commander received the following reply... nuts. Givin' our country and and our loved ones at home a worthy christmas present and being worthy to take part in this war. Merry Christmas to you all" Sink began to walk back to the jeep but stopped "Sargent Johnson" he said and the men became quiet again after they had began to laugh "this is for you" Sink held out a piece of paper to Rose and when she took it she looked at it and then looked back up "what is it sir?" But she got no answer as he turned and left.

Sink had gone in his jeep and left easy company staring at Rose who held the paper, Rose looked down and saw that it was a letter. When rose opened the envelope she saw the recognisable handwriting of her mum as she began to read the letter as she lent against the tree next to her
Dear Rosaline,
I hope you are well and keeping warm I hear Europe is cold this time of year. I hope all your friends are well as well tell them hi from me. I have some bad news my darling daughter, a while ago your father became terribly ill but we did not want to worry you as we all believed he would get better but sadly he has not. I wish I was able to tell you this news in person, I wish the war to end soon so you can come home and have your friends over for tea. I wish your father to get better but that looks more unlikely as the days go by. I fear that by the time you receive this letter your father will already be gone.
Don't worry about me and Tim, we are well but we both miss you. Tim is growing up and by the time you get home he will be very different but he still sleeps in your room just like he has done since you left.
I wish you well and I hope to see you soon
Lots of love
Your mother
Rose stared down at the letter for a moment before she folded it back into the envelope and placed it in her pocket and began to listen to the conversations happening behind wishing herself to forget the words on the paper.
