The Girl In The War (Under Editing)

Part Four

Rose had got together a small group of men that consisted of Bull, Malarkey, Babe, Webster and herself once they got to the gates of the second camp it looked the same as the men's camp. The women inside were starved, beaten and bruised, once the gate was open Rose turned to Web "translate for me" Web nodded and walked closer to Rose as Bull, Malarkey and Babe stayed behind her "hi, my name is Rose i'm here to help you" Rose could hear Web translate "these men won't hurt you, we're American soldiers, now we're gonna get you some food and water as soon as we can but for now please just wait here, i'm a medic so i will look at as many of you as i can if you could please direct me to the people who need my help most" Rose looked at Web "can any of you speak English?" she asked, silence filled the air before a small accented voice said "i can" a woman walked forward, her head was shaved but the small hairs still there showed that she had dark coloured hair, her eyes were piercing blue that looked into Rose's soul "ok, you can stay with me while i help, is that alright?" the woman nodded as Rose walked over to her "Web stay with Babe, Don and Bull at the gates, tell any of the women who try and get past to stay put and we'll help them as soon as we can, be gentle" Rose looked towards Don "i asked Winters to get some nurses here so look out for them" Don nodded slightly dazed and Rose walked further into the camp with the woman

"what's your name?" Rose asked as she bandaged up a head wound of a crying woman who clung to Rose uniform like it was the only thing keeping her alive "Louisa" the woman answered as she was about to say something else when a cry filled their ears. Louisa and Rose rushed over to see a woman on the ground, her belly was large and it took a moment for Rose to realize that she was pregnant. Rose turned to Louisa "tell her to lay on her back, grab that blanket" Louisa grabbed the blanket and placed it under the woman as she lay down, Rose looked between the girls legs just as another woman's voice filled her ears "Rose? I'm head nurse Harris, we were sent here on your request" Rose nodded and saw that the babies head was crowning "the soldiers have gone back, your captain wants you back as well" Rose nodded slightly "i'll head back once this babies been delivered" the nurse nodded and turned to the other nurses and the odd doctor and headed off to help someone else.

After a couple of hours the baby was finally brought into the world, Rose had to cut the woman slightly with a scalpel which she had placed on the ground, in order to get the baby out faster but other than that it was a relatively normal birth. Rose wrapped a blanket around the baby and looked up at the mother with a smile, Rose showed her the baby girl who was slightly small but alive, the mother looked at Rose and said "vielen dank" and the world began to speed up as Rose watched her grab the scalpel off the ground and stab it into her neck. Rose quickly handed the baby over to Louisa who had let out a gasp of shock and Rose pulled the scalpel out of the wound and held her hands over it trying to stop the bleeding but it was no use. The woman died leaving her newborn baby daughter behind, Rose looked back at the baby and Louisa who had tears running down her face "what did she say?" Rose asked as she stood from the body and wiped the blood off her hands onto her pants, Louisa looked up and handed the baby back to Rose "thank you" Rose stared down at the baby just as a runner ran up to her "sergeant Johnson" he said which caused Rose to look up at the soldier "Captain Speirs wants you to come back" Rose nodded and went to find a nurse to hand the baby too. When Rose finally found nurse Harris she shook her head "I'm sorry Sergeant, we don't have the supplies to care for a baby, you can take it back with you and look after it until we can find a family" Rose nodded but before she walked over to the truck waiting for her she turned to the nurse "her" the nruse turned confused "her not it"
