On August 15th 1945 the Japanese surrendered.
Rose was sat with Burgin, Snafu and Eugene on a couple of high up rocks looking down at the party that was happening below them, flares were sent up to the sky and the only sounds were the cheers and shouts from the marines. Rose was sat next to Eugene, who had his arm around her shoulder as they watched Snafu point to the stars in the sky "you see there, the line of stars angling up? That's Snafu's peka" Rose looked up at the sky "it's kinda small" she joked which made Burgin let out a loud laugh as Rose looked towards Lieutenant Mackenzie who was stumbling towards them "... what're we going to do now?" He asked while handing a bottle to Rose "have you own party" he said as he walked away, swaying as he went. Rose held the bottle out to Burgin who took the bottle and read the label "I'll show you what I'm gonna do now" and then opened the lid and took a large gulp "there it is, my first official act of peacetime, Snaf?" the man held the bottle out to Snafu who took it and also took a large mouthful and then handed it down to Eugene who just stared at it for a moment before he took a large gulp himself. "home we go" Rose whispered as she lay her head on his shoulder as they all watched the party below them.
