Part Six

It had been a couple more days and there hadn't been many major wounds since Layden was taken off the front line, Rose found herself sat in a circle with Eugene, burgin, snafu and hamm, peck was off to the side digging a hole. The loud sounds of bombing surround them as eugene said annoyed "can't they give it a rest" Burgin looked towards the man who was writing in his bible "what's the date?" he asked, eugene began to put away his bible as he answered "june 5th maybe 6th" Rose let out a little laugh which cause Burgin to send her a questioning look "June 5th is the anniversary of my first jump" Hamm looked towards the medic "jump?" he asked, Rose nodded "yeah, i was apart of the airborne, i jumped out of planes straight into enemy territory" Rose looked towards Burgin who was looking right back at her "it sounds crazier than it was" Burgin smiled and then looked towards Peck who was moaning about the island "if you dig that any deeper, they'll get you for dissertation" Peck ignored the man as Peck asked Rose "first?" Rose looked at the man questioningly "you said first jump?" Rose nodded before resting her head back on a rock "i did two jumps, one into Normandy on d-day and then again into Holland" The boys began to talk about holidays but Rose stopped listening fully as she began to fall asleep, her head fell to the side and onto Burgin's shoulder but he didn't do anything. Rose's head shot up when she heard a scream but Burgin quickly said "it's alright" Rose looked around "where's eugene?" she asked but Burgin was quick to answer before she had finished her question "sir needed him" Rose nodded and rested her head backwards again but shooting soon woke her up. Rose looked towards Burgin who shrugged.

Night had fallen once again and Rose found herself walking around making sure everyone was alright and when she got back to Eugene she heard Snafu complaining and Eugene shouting at him to shut up. Rose could feel the tension rising as Peck finally snapped, he ran off towards the front line with his rifle, he took off his poncho and began to shout and shoot. Rose watched as snafu and eugene tried to get peck to cover while they were still in cover but when they couldn't Hamm walked closer and pulled Peck down but got shot. Rose shot forward and checked his pulse but she found there was none, the shooting had stopped and eugene was screaming in Pecks face "you stupid bastard!" Snafu pulled eugene off just as Mack walked up to them "what's going on?" he asked Eugene glared at the ground as he spit out "Hamms dead and Pecks gone" The Lieutenant looked towards Rose who nodded her head slightly "Peck can't cope" she whispered to him as she walked past. Peck was then pulled away and silence filled the air between snafu, eugene and Rose
