And then I crashed into you/And I went up in flames/Could've been the death of me/But then you breathed your breath in me/And I crashed into you/Like a runaway train/You will consume me/But I can't walk away~Daughtry - Crashed

"Wow, your up early squirt." Dad said coming into the kitchen as I stood putting bread in the toaster. It wasn't only dad though who was shocked at my early rise; it was eight in the morning on a holiday and I wasn't sleepy. I wanted action, to get out and about.

"I know." I said laughing shortly as my fingers drummed along the top of the counter waiting for my toast to pop. "What's the plan today?" I asked.

He shrugged as he put his plate in the sink "Got a couple of jobs, that's about it though."

I looked at the sink "I have to ask dad, why hand wash when you have a dishwasher?"

He chuckled "Because I don't need so much washed with only one, now two people in the house. Saves water too." He suddenly became wary "Why, you wanna use it?"

I laughed "No, call me insane but chores can be fun."

He smiled relaxing "Good. Okay" he said glancing at his heavy duty watch "I'm off, call me if something is up or you get plans involving leaving the house, you know." I nodded my head as he ruffled my hair and left out the door.

Half an hour later I found myself washing the dishes as I came to the conclusion to check my email first as I looked out the front of the house; it was peaceful, a quiet street, green lawn and garden and the breeze was a soft soothing embrace, across the road diagonally was the town's forest; there where the odd trails that lead to the lookouts as the slope grew to a hill that looked over the town. It took up a wide range of area and was highly beautiful and peaceful, it was a shame it didn't snow here or it would look even more beautiful with snow on it.

The street was peaceful but that was expected; it was only a town and no main road, on a gentle slope itself as we sat on the outskirts of town.

Deciding to check my emails outside I finished up wiping the suds off of me and went into my room in search for my laptop case. Halfway through my search I came across my toiletry bag and without another thought I grabbed it and took a shower.

The soft hum of the pump outside of the bathroom outside soothed me just as much as the hot water that spread down my body. Satisfied I left the bathroom in jeans, a black singlet and wet hair that kept my neck cool.

Grabbing my laptop case I headed out the front. The breeze was soothing but it also had a hint of a bite to it. Sitting down on the top step to our verandah I got out my laptop. It was dead silent and the hum of my laptop as it started released the tension in my shoulders as it filled the air.  Distantly you could hear cars on the roads, the rustling of leaves and the faint singing of happy birds. The street was quiet and empty; it was too early to be up on a holiday apparently.

Once the computer had kicked into gear my fingers softly danced across the keys as I flew through the links to my emails. My finger tapped to a tune as I waited for it to log in. I smiled as my inbox read four new emails; at least some people loved me. Deciding to get the least appealing done I clicked on mums:

'Oh sweetie! How was the plane trip? I remember my first flight, terrible, especially if you're next to some fruit loop. How's your fathers new house? I wouldn't expect it to be as anything flash as the old one, or especially up here! You'll never guess what I have been up to....'

I smiled; as I expected it was based on her, I didn't mind, she meant well. With a paragraph about myself and the rest about what she's been doing and faking interest and enthusiasm I hit send. The next was Adam:

'How's dad? I'm real bored, in bed sick! When I could be out with Amber, it's a freakin' pain in the ass. Get an email off mum? Bet she was dying to hear about your day! Lol. Well me and Amber are, give me a reply, fill us in! Is dad really getting over all this shit?'

I giggled, replying I filled him in so far on my adventure, told him about mum's email, and mocked him about being sick, said hi to Amber; Adam's three year girlfriend; someone I could actually connect with up there. With only two years age gap between Adam and I it meant the same with Amber, so we could relate and connect easily. She was gorgeous too, and an excellent influence on Adam.

Clicking on another email it was from Jackie and the other from Brooke, my two best friends from down here; both emails were the same and read:

'Hey beautiful! We are SO excited! Give us a buzz once you get a free time here and we'll catch up. Whenever it suits you, love you xoxo!'

Smiling I replied with my thank yous to both, told them I was in town now but would check with dad when we could catch up and get back to them. Finishing off the last email I logged off.

I was humming to myself and packing up when the wind picked up raising Goosebumps along my skin, but the weirdest part was I felt like I was being watched. Taking a swift look I around I couldn't help but laugh; there was nothing there!

Knowing what was next on my agenda I grabbed a loose cardigan and my converse shoes and with a note left to dad I ran down the steps and into the peaceful forest.

I didn't know where exactly I was going, just somewhere that gave time to muse to myself.

I'd been walking for about ten or twenty minutes and it had become dead silent, I also realized I had gone off track, but it was okay, I could get back easily. The only sound was the odd birds or animals rustling as my feet crunched on the loose branches and debris. It was spring, so flowers were out and blooming and the smell was a mixture of moisture and grass and moss but also flowers. The only downfall was the wind picking up a little, wrapping my cardigan tighter around me I moved on.

Weaving in and out of shrubs I paused as a not so quiet sound became clearer, it was a pounding sound, as if someone was running but heavier and more than two feet.

It was just as I stopped and brushed my hair out of my face to peer around that I saw a quick flash of black and I hit the ground with force to have darkness creep up and over me.
