Chapter 27: Lodge

The "lodge" that Angelo had made reference to sprawled across a grassland.

The sole wording of his was faulty for something that looked nothing short of a mansion.

I had never seen anything like it before. It was simply in a class of its own. Nothing in Boston nor the entire state for the matter could compare.

There were trails of flowers like lilacs and ivies, sprouting from the sides of patios and balconies. I could see the starting of what looked like the woods; an area that could possibly go on for miles. Encased in it were an endless amount of sunlight, serene movements and lovely sounds.

My brain could hardly process what I was seeing before me.

It was like being gifted with something so high in status and worth that you physically don't know what to do with yourself.

I hadn't the time to even attempt to do anything with how quickly Cupid unlocked another set of doors before stepping aside for us all to enter.

Lights streamed from the inside towards us.

I couldn't help but to marvel at the interior once again.

The constant shock from each attributes of this place was filling me with so much energy I felt like I was going to burst.

Everything I had seen in this...this land was so picturesque and unimaginably gorgeous.

Italian-designed walls and beautiful tapestry laid awake before my eyes.

The furniture was not modern but it was firm enough to not squeak at the man's weight as he prompted himself into it after ushering us inside.

"We'll be staying here for the night and make haste tomorrow morning. I have a few things to deal with in town that cannot be delayed any further. Will you be having them join us as well?"

Cupid's eyes were imploring as they laid upon Angelo who removed his shoes and placed them in the closet to the side as if he'd been here plenty enough times.

I guess the "them" referred to me and Genie.

The only deadweights there seemed to be here on this work trip.

"Yes. If I don't that would only take away from the very purpose of having brought them here, wouldn't it?"

He'd said "them" again but everyone in the room knew he was talking mainly about me.

I was the reason why he had even come in the first place.

Apparently it worked out well because he also had some business to take care of here.

It was just that he had the privilege of putting it off longer than his friend had without being reprimanded.

The perks of being the Commander in Chief I guess?

Who knows.

My trust issues had me wondering if he was even telling the truth about having any matters to attend to in the first place.

I bit down onto my lip as my face was set ablaze as Angelo knelt before me.

With wide eyes and an objecting arm, I could hardly do anything as he reached for my feet.

I heard two respective sharp sucks of breaths come from our shocked audience.

"What are you—" The words died in my throat as he glared up at me warningly.

But why within it did there seem to be so much affection?

He slid the shoes I wore off my feet and replaced them with a pair of bed slippers.
