Professor McGonagall opened the door to Dumbledore's office and allowed Y/N entrance. She closed the door behind him and left him on his own. Dumbledore was sat behind his desk, writing on some parchment.
"Just one moment, Mr Potter." Dumbledore dismissed with a wave of his hand.
"Professor, I swear to Merlin that I didn't-"
"Just a moment, Y/N..."
While he was waiting for Dumbledore to finish doing, whatever he was doing, Y/N took a tour of his office. The Headmaster stored many wonders in his office, a pensieve, framed portraits of all the past Headmasters and Headmistresses, and Dumbledore's own pet, a Phoenix.
Y/N approached the red bird and ran his hand down the back of its neck. Suddenly, the bird set alight and burned to ashes before his eyes. Y/N was in shock, there was absolutely nothing he could have done to prevent the demise of the Phoenix.
"Professor!" Y/N shouted in shock. "Your bird... I couldn't do anything... he just caught fire..."
"About time too..." Y/N whipped his head around to face Dumbledore with confusion written all over his face. "He's been looking dreadful for days, I've been telling him to get a move on." Dumbledore looked up from his letter and saw the expression on Y/N's face and decided to enlighten him on the reason why it was okay. "Fawkes is a phoenix, Y/N. Phoenixes burst into flames when it's time for them to die and are reborn from the ashes. Watch him..."
Y/N looked back in the bowl where Fawkes' ashes fell. Sure enough, the small pile of ashes started wriggling and shifting, and from within sprouted a baby phoenix. Y/N used two fingers to brush off the remaining ash from the bird's head, and the Phoenix nibbled on his finger appreciatively.
"Its a shame you had to see him on a Burning Day," Dumbledore said, finishing his letter with a dramatic full stop. He folded up the note and threw it up in the air. A window burst open and an owl shot into the room and swooped over Y/N's head and caught the letter in its beak, before leaving the way it came. "He's really very handsome most of the time: wonderful red and gold plumage. Fascinating creatures, phoenixes. They can carry immensely heavy loads, their tears have healing powers and they make highly faithful pets."
Dumbledore seemed about ready to talk about the reason Y/N was invited to his office in the first place, when the door burst open to reveal Hagrid. He was sweating as if he had ran all the way from the grounds to the office, still carrying the dead rooster.
"It wasn' Y/N, Professor Dumbledore!" Hagrid said urgently. "I was talkin' ter him seconds before that kid was found, he never had time, sir..." Dumbledore tried to open his mouth to speak but he was cut off by Hagrid swinging his arms about, making the dead rooster's head fly off into the corner of the room. "It can't've bin him, I'll swear it in front o' the Ministry o' Magic if I have to..."
"Hagrid, I..." Dumbledore tried again.
"Yeh've got the wrong boy, sir, I know Y/N never-"
"Hagrid! I do not think that Y/N attacked those people."
"Oh," Hagrid said, his arms falling limp down to his sides. "Right, well I'll just... I'll just wait outside then, Headmaster."
Hagrid left with embarrassment written all over him. Y/N turned with a questioning expression.
"You don't think it was me, Professor?" Y/N asked, curious as to how he knew so quickly. Even Y/N himself had to admit the evidence against him was pretty damning.
"No, Y/N, I do not. But I still want to talk with you." Dumbledore said, his eyes peering over the rim of his half moon glasses. "I must ask you, Y/N, whether there is anything you'd like to tell me... anything at all?"
