Hannah's pacing around her cage and Josh's eyes never left her sight since you got her inside. He emanates worry, filling the whole room. Everyone's tense, while Alice prepares the cure under the pressure of all the looks fixated on her.
You now know for sure that the Wendigo is Hannah. You saw the butterfly tattoo yourself and you know it from the "visions". Ironically, Chris once told Josh about the Butterfly Effect and how even our smallest choices can influence our future. It's hard to believe that your choices took you here, you never thought that anything like the Wendigos could be real, nevermind being the one to actually study and heal them.
"She's gonna be fine, it's going to work, Josh!" you assure him, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"How do you know? You never tested it on an actual Wendigo!" he answers, moving away from you.
His reaction did hurt you a little bit, but you do get the fact that he's worried about her, he knows exactly what his sister is going through.
"Trust me, this is what I'm the best at" you smile, gesturing towards the lab and your partners.
Josh's expression softens and he turns around to watch over his sister again.
"I trust you" he finally answers, without looking at you.
Before you get the chance to hug him, like you wished to, Alice hands you the cure. You can tell that she's not sure about the rate of success, since this is the first actual test ever, but she does hope for the best. And you know your team, they're brilliant, so it must work.
"I'll do it" Josh says out of nowhere, snatching the vial from your hand.
His hands are cold, trembling again. The coldness sends shivers down your spine and you look into his red eyes. He hasn't cried, but somehow the stress and worry had an effect on his eyes.
Your hand remains in the air, in the same place, as you still didn't completely comprehend what was happening, until you actually saw him taking a needle for the vial and walking back to the cage. You finally move to stop him by placing your hand on his arm and not letting go of him. It's a desperate grab, a scared one.
"It's dangerous, Josh" you tell him, as if he didn't know. "I'll go!" you stupidly add, trying to take the vial from him, but he's faster than you and he pushes you aside.
"Isn't it dangerous for you too, miss?" he asks sarcastically. Again, his comment does hurt you, but you choose to ignore it. You know that this situation is affecting his "condition" and it might be difficult for him to tame his anger. "She's my sister, so I'll go in."
This time his voice is calmer, warmer. "Did he realize that he hurt you?" You ask yourself. You still want to stop him, but his decision was made.
As Josh steps in and Hannah starts growling at him, your heart sinks. Alice holds your hand tight and closely watches over you. You gasp in fear when Hannah starts sniffing him. Alice notices that you have turned really pale and that makes her worry about you. But the only thing you can think about is Josh. Your eyes are fixated on him, careful not to miss anything that happens in that cage. He talks to Hannah, he tries to tell her memories from their childhood, to call on her human side - like you did with him - and it does seem to work. She seems to settle down. So before anything else happens that could deteriorate the situation, Josh sticks the needle in Hannah's arm.
Hannah screeches in pain and anger, she hits Josh, throwing him to the glass wall. He falls on the floor and you forget how to breathe for a second. Then you run towards the cage, screaming his name and crying. Three scientists have already gotten Josh out of the cage safely, so you just fall to your knees, next to him.
You completely ignore Hannah's screams and screeches, you can only see and hear Josh. You hold his face between your hands, then your hands run all over his body in a frantic search. You're looking for any wounds to attend, but luckily you don't find anything.
"I'm fine, Y/n, I promise" he smiles at you, taking your hand to stop you from checking him.
"Are you sure? Does anything hurt you? Do you want to go to the infirmary?"
"I'm sure, I'm good" he assures you. Then he looks behind you, at the cage. "Is it working?" he asks, unconviced.
You too look behind yourself, only to see Hannah, still in her Wendigo form, in a corner, scratching the wall, but getting calmer and calmer by the second.
"It is working" Alice answers for you, making Josh breathe easy.

* two months later *
"The dress looks amazing on you, Y/n, come on!" Alice proudly states.
You look in the mirror and the image of yourself in the beautiful purple dress makes you blush a little bit.
"I'm not sure, guys, maybe I should just wear what I usually wear." you say.
"Lab coats aren't considered to be a good choice on first dates" Hannah laughs.
You and Alice laugh too. You love spending time with Hannah, she has become one of your best friends since that day, when Josh gave her the antidote. The cure worked really fast and the next morning she was back to normal. Josh cried for hours, he kept holding her, shaking, telling her how much he had missed her. You were so happy for them.
But then the Washingtons found out that you brought Hannah back and they considered that there weren't any further reasons to continue the research on Wendigos, so they closed the fund and they forced you to leave the mountain. They basically got what they "wanted" and they told you and your team to fuck off. But they haven't been in contact with Josh or Hannah ever since. You can't understand them at all.
Josh's schizofrenia has gotten really good. He went back to therapy, but he wants you to come with him at his sessions, which you gladly do. You spend most of your time together and you love that.
Your "connection" hasn't dissapeared. You both still have weird dream-visions about each others' pasts and you also feel the pain he feels in some ocassions. But you both started to get used to the fact that you might have to live with this the rest of your lives.
"I still can't believe this is your first date" Hannah says.
"I mean, we didn't really have any time for an official date. We were kinda busy with Wendigo stuff, therapy sessions, getting jobs and so on" you explain.
Alice smiles at you, touching your arm to show her affection. You are grateful for having both Hannah and Alice by your side.
Alice's purple dress actually looks really good on you. You turn around to look at your back in the mirror, but you see the door opening slowly.
"Everyone dressed? Guy coming in!" Josh's voice booms in the room.
He stops when he sees, his jaw drops and his eyes shine. You smile shyly.
"Ahm..." he scratches the back of his neck, his cheeks flooding red. "Wow" he manages to say.
Alice rolls her eyes and grabs Hannah's hand to take her out of the room. Left alone in the room with Josh, you notice his black suit. He looks extremely handsome in it, but you bet he looks even better without it.
"You are 'wow' too, mister" you say, cringing at your own joke.
He approaches you to rest his hand on your cheek and caress it. He laughs when he sees you scrunch your nose at your stupid comment.
"How about you leave the jokes to me?" Josh smiles dearly.
"And what do I do then?" you ask teasingly.
"Make me slowly go crazy?" you raise an eyebrow at him and he shakes his head. "Besides being the smart one between the two of us?"
"Shut up"
You take a peck of his lips and you can feel him smile when your lips touch.
"I never get enough of that feeling" he comments.
"You have a lifetime to enjoy it" you laugh. (END)
