You still remember that day as clear as always, despite the fact that 4 years have passed. It's like it's playing and replaying in your head over and over again, every day. And even though you have accepted the truth, reliving that day still makes it harder for you to breathe properly.
You also have nightmares almost weekly that end up with you waking up crying and screaming, soaked and exhausted. Hearing voices and feeling something or someone touch you has become something normal, something you're used to by now.
You blame everything on the echoes of the past. If you won't find peace with yourself and the outcome of the Clone Wars, you will forever be tormented by these never-ending visions.
As you sit on your sun-kissed balcony in Naboo, you look down in your garden, where you see little Luke and Leia running around, laughing and screaming. If you can't heal for yourself, you have to do it for them, the last piece that keeps Anakin alive in your memory. Your children.

-

Watching the enormous Coruscant from your balcony during the Clone Wars is the only thing that properly reminds you of home, even though Coruscant is completely different of Naboo, rougher, more industrialized.
Waiting for Anakin to return from the Chancellor's missions is always a stressing wait, as you don't trust Palpatine and Anakin seems to be willing to follow any orders from him. His sudden attitude change and absence has been worrying you and Obi-Wan, but the Master has promised you that he will watch over Anakin.
As the door to your chamber suddenly opens, you gasp and turn around, only to see a barely breathing Ahsoka and Captain Rex behind her, holding his blaster towards the corridor. Ahsoka's fear and confusion is visible through her apparent calm.
"Oh thank heavens, you're still here, Y/n! Something is happening!" she yells as she looks back to the corridor, but Rex nods in order to assure her that he has the situation under control. "The clones have turned against us" she ends.
Your eyes widen in shock. You look out the window, as if you would be able to find any answers between the tall buildings of Coruscant. Finding the right words seems impossible. The only thing that runs through your mind is that Anakin is in danger.
"The Chancellor has given the Order 66, miss" Rex mutters, disturbed.
You only then realize that Rex has to fight his own brothers, since the Order hasn't affected him. His helmet is blocking your view of his face, but you can only imagine how painful and sad his expression must be.
"Anakin?" you finally ask.
"I got a transmission from Master Obi-Wan. He's on Mustafar" Ahsoka informs, and even though she doesn't mention Anakin's name, you know that he is there.
"We must leave right now, Senator!" Rex orders, as Ahsoka grabs your hand and forces you to run out of your chamber, towards their ship.
Once inside the ship, the fear is raising in your chest as you see clones shooting at you. Rex is shouting at Ahsoka to leave the hangar, while he shoots back at his brothers, but the no avail, considering the huge number of clones that his competing against.
Luckily, the ship starts to levitate and Ahsoka pilots it out of the hangar soon and you lightspeed towards Mustafar almost immediately.
As you land on the not-so-friendly planet, you rush to the door, only to be meet by a scorching gust of wind. Regardless, you run outside, looking around, expecting to see a huge fight, but the planet is silent.
"Where are they?" you question Ahsoka. "There are no clones here."
Ahsoka looks at her comm, ignoring your question. She tries to establish contact with Obi-Wan, but she fails. She then feels something in the Force, you suppose, when you see her resting her forehead on her hand.
"Something is not okay, we have to find them" she states, but you don't get the chance to start running that you see Ahsoka being thrown a few feet away.
Ahsoka lands on her feet anyway and turns around to look at her enemy. You look in the same direction, despite Rex running in front of you, to protect you. When your eyes meet the yellow ones of a Sith, you feel scared. But when you realize that the eyes belong to a person you know, it feels as if someone has shot you in your stomach.
"Anakin..." you whisper, but he hears you, turning to face you, his face features slightly softening.
"Y/n, what are you doing here?" he asks, anger raising in his voice.
He then looks at Rex and Ahsoka, realizing that you came with them. You notice Obi-Wan slowly approaching from behind Anakin. His clothes are ruffled and burnt, like Anakin's. It looks as if they've been fighting.
"Master, what is going on?" Ahsoka asks Anakin, not believe the sight before her eyes.
"You shouldn't have come..." he simply states, approaching the three of you in a threatening manner.
Rex raises the blaster towards Anakin, but you push his hand down, as you run past him, towards Ani. You grab his shoulders, as you once did in order to make him talk to you. His shoulders are tense, but he stops walking and looks right into your eyes.
"Ani, please don't do this! Please, come back home, we can solve this together" you plead.
Anakin bites his bottom lip, troubled by your words, but shakes his head then, returning to his scary posture and figure.
"Don't you understand, Y/n? I am doing this for you, for us, so you can be safe. So I can have the power to keep you safe" he explains, almost hysterically.
A shadow falls over half of his face, as he looks back down at you, making his golden eye glow, sending shivers down your spine. You won't give up on him, there has to be a chance to bring him back from the Dark Side.
"I am safe, Ani! It does not matter what happens, I trust you to keep me safe and to love me, without having to resort to this kind of powers. Anakin, don't let them play with your mind, fight it!"
"No, no, this is the only way! Join me, Y/n, and together we can rule the galaxy" Anakin proposes, his hands resting on your hips in a dominating way.
When his words finally get processed by your brain, you shake your head in disbelief, taking a step away from him. His possessive eyes follow your moves, as tears form in your eyes. You look again at Obi-Wan, whose sadness is visible all over his face. You wait for someone to tell you, encourage you that it is still possible to save Anakin, but everyone, even Ahsoka, seems to have given up on hope.
"Anakin, please, don't go down this path. I can't follow you on that path, please don't leave me! Don't do this!" you try again, but his reaction is not an expected one, as you can see anger forming on his face once again.
"Did they turn you against me, Y/n?" he yells, approaching you once again.
Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and Rex take out their weapons, in order to protect you, but Anakin doesn't seem to care. It's as if he actually forgot about their existence. He is only staring at you, disturbed by the fact that you refused to join him, betrayed by your decision.
"I am not turning against you, Ani! We can help you!" you state, gesturing towards your friends.
But Anakin sees it as a threat, rather than a suggestion to help him. He takes it as your last betrayal, your final decision, so, in his blind anger, he raises his hand, using the Force to apply pressure over your neck. As Anakin slowly closes his fist, the pain becomes unbearable. Your feet raise from the ground and you desperately try to get them back down, despite the suffocation. Anakin stares into your eyes as he chokes you to death, no remorse in his own.
"Anakin, no!" Obi-Wan yells, running towards you.
"Master, please stop, you're hurting her!" Ahsoka pleads.
The Padawan's words seem to get to Anakin. He suddenly snaps out of that state and frees you just as your blurry vision started to darken. You crash to the ground, exhausted and desperately gasping for air. Ahsoka and Rex rush over to you and they both help you stand up, as remaining conscious becomes harder and harder.
Anakin stares at you, shocked by what he has done. Regret spreads on his face, he can feel it boiling in his blood. He almost did what he was trying to prevent, he hurt you, the love of his life. He tries to approach you, but Obi-Wan yells from behind him to Ahsoka and Rex.
"Take her out of her! Leave!"
When Rex finally lays you on a bed in the ship and you feel the ship levitating over the hot lands of Mustafar, you can only think of what happened. You then suddenly realize, while staring at the ceiling: you failed.

-

You feel the cold tears on your cheeks, and you wipe them with a trembling hand. You can almost feel the pain around your neck again, breathing seems impossible, just like it did back then. The vision seems so real, as if you're stuck in replay.
Ahsoka and Obi-Wan have gone MIA ever since, and even though they did come to visit you and the twins when you least expected, they never told you where they've been hiding. They are some of the last survivors of Order 66, so they're lives are in danger all the time.
Even so, you still have Rex, who visits you all the time. Leia and Luke love him and his stories about being a soldier in a war. It's heartwarming to see them spending time together.
Lost in your thoughts, you stopped paying attention to the twins, so when they run into the room, chasing each other, you flinch. They both jump into your lap, almost causing all three of you to fall on the floor. You smile as you lovingly caress their cheeks.
"Mom, tell us about dad" Luke asks of you.
"Yes, mommy, tell us stories about him!" Leia agrees.
You look at them with warm eyes. Of course you never told them what happened, you told them their father perished as a hero in the war. How could you tell them that their father was a ruthless Sith Lord that has been torturing the galaxy for the past years?
"Well, Anakin was an amazing Jedi. He never lost a battle and he was one of the best Jedi Masters to ever live..." you stop, only to get interrupted by Luke.
"I am going to be a great Jedi, just like father!" he announces, making you smile.
"Shut up, Luke, listen to the story" Leia scolds her brother.
Before you continue the story, you look at both kids, infatuated with them and their personalities, even though they resemble Anakin's so much.
"But what not everyone knew is that he cared deeply for his friends and he was willing to do anything to protect them..." (END)
