"What's so important that you couldn't have just told me over the phone, Dan? I'm pretty sure you sealed the deal on our relationship when you fucked up, literally."

He sighed, looking down at the floor. "There's someone at your school that you shouldn't trust. I think she's planning to do something bad. Her name is Molly Brigham."

My eyes widened in complete shock that he even knew who she was, which, subsequently, led me to wonder if he was also planning something behind my back.

"How do you even know who that is? Have you been at the school? Are you checking on me or something?"

He ran a hand through his hair, obviously stressed.

"No - I came to the school to talk to you. And yes, I did plan to beg you to take me back, but that woman stopped me in the hall. When I told her that I was looking for your room, she said she needed me to talk with her."

I was still confused. "I still don't understand what you're trying to say. What's going on with her? You need to tell me everything - right now."

He nodded. "She's planning on going to the school board against you."

"Against me? For what? I haven't done anything wrong. And neither has Kyle if that's where this is heading."

"Kens, I believe you. That's why I'm here. She's saying that you're blackmailing him into a relationship. Then, after the semester, you plan to file a claim against him for abuse of power in the classroom."

I had to sit down. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. How was I supposed to handle
this?

"She's saying that you had mentioned to her about wanting his job in the department."

"I don't understand. That's completely...there's not a shred of truth in any of that. I mean, yes - of course I'd love a job in the department, but not his. There's a freshman course that's available and I've already expressed interest in that position."

He nodded. "All I know is what she's said. I might not be saying it all correctly, but she's going to the board tomorrow."

I looked around for my shoes. I had to talk to Kyle. He had to know what's happening, so he wasn't blindsided with these damn lies.

I looked up at Dan. "I still don't trust you, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here that you're trying to be a decent human being. So, if you're lying about any of this, please tell me."

"I'm not lying, and I'm willing to speak to the school board on your behalf if needed."

I opened the door for him. "Thank you, but I'm gonna need you to leave. I have to talk to Kyle about all this."

He nodded. "Of course. Call me if you need a witness with the board."

"I will."

I was about to shut the door behind him when he turned around to face me.
