It's the little things

Chapter 24

Savanna's POV

After two more days of playing together and becoming the bestest of friends sadly the time came when I had to say goodbye to Jace. In such a short period of time we had become very close and it was upsetting to see him go.

We exchanged numbers and promised to keep in touch though. We decided to all have breakfast together at a nearby diner since we couldn't drive them to the airport because daddy had a really important meeting to go to.

Currently we were all eating and joking around, Glen was showing Lexie the video he took of Nik in the carousel while Nik playfully threatened him.

"I'm really going to miss you" I wrapped my arms around Jace and tried to hold back my tears although i wasn't doing a really good job.

"I'm really going to miss you too. Promise you'll text?" I could feel his tears wetting my shirt and I tightened my hug before pulling away completely.

"Of course! Everyday so you don't forget me. You better respond to my texts" I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand and gave him a teasing smile that I'm sure it just looked sad or quite frankly pitiful.

He nodded back excitedly and wiped his own tears. I could tell both Glen and Nik didn't want to make us part either as they gave us sad smiles. The driver that Nik had asked to take them to the airport came into the diner and told us he would wait outside.

We said more goodbye's and gave each other more hugs before finally pulling away. I clinged to Nik as I waved at the car that was slowly leaving the parking lot.

"Daddy! Please carry me...?" I gave him my best puppy eyes which wasn't that hard since I had just been crying.

He picked me up and I wrapped my legs around his waist hiding my face on the crook of his neck and sniffling quietly.

"Don't worry princess, they'll come back soon! You'll see." Daddy rubbed soothing circles on my back and I nodded slowly trying to calm down.

"Come on we can't be late to the meeting" I looked up confused and tilt my head a little.

"I'm going too?" I had only been to a handful of meetings like my introduction, getting to learn my duties as Luna, which I was aware of before but daddy said I had to go anyway, and I've also been to a couple of meetings with the women and children of the pack. But daddy said this morning that it was a super important meeting so I thought it would be about intruders, the pack warriors, or all the other stuff he doesn't like involving me in, so I just assumed I wouldn't have to go.

"Yes Princess, you're coming to this one. We have to make all the arrangements for our official mating ceremony and some members of the High Council are coming to watch you take on the role as Luna too. I'm sorry I know this is a lot, especially now when you're so little but we have to do this" Daddy looked apologetic so I wrapped my arms around his neck and gave him a hug.

"Listen Nikolai, I know you love taking care of me and I love it when I'm little and in your care, but this is our pack, I'm Luna and I don't want you to think that just because I'm in little space a lot I won't do my duties. Trust me if I'm having trouble coming back you can count on Diamond, she'll either push me back out of little space or she'll take over. You need to trust us."

Diamond purred in agreement and I tightened my arms around Nikolai.

"Princess I trust you both wholeheartedly, but I also tend to get carried away in taking care of you and I subconsciously push you away from pack stuff, and you're right, this is our pack now. You're amazing, I love you."

"I love you too" at some point during our conversation Nik had started walking without me noticing and we were now standing in front of his car. He put me down on the passenger seat and gave me a sweet kiss before running around to his side.

"So just so you know, the same council member from last time is coming plus two other members who they didn't tell me the names of. The ceremony is for next week on the day of the full moon and today we're just going to talk over the arrangements, decorations, food, all of it." Nikolai brought me up to speed on the customs of their ceremony, which was very similar to what I already knew with only a few differences .

"Why is the High Council so interested on our pack?" I ask a little curiously, the high council had never bothered my dad's pack.

"When I lost my parents I was very young and the Council thought I wasn't fit to run the pack. They wanted to assign a member to take over until I was of 'proper age' and 'fit to rule', I disagreed and told them I could do it. They decided to send someone to look over me for a week and after that they decided I was doing a good enough job."

Nikolai seemed to struggle with the words and I reached out to grab the hand that was resting on the shift stick. He flashed me a small smile before continuing his story

"My parents weren't the ones who made this pack the most powerful in all of Italy, we were good and had what we needed but dad never wanted to grow or expand. So when I started making treaties and merges and growing the council grew suspicious and they've been on my ass ever since."

I felt immensely proud of my mate knowing all the good work he did for his pack but also annoyed that he was being put under surveillance just because he started at a young age and has been extremely successful.

"Well I think they need to back off. And I'm also very glad that you decided to expand and grow because that's how you got to travel to America and we met." I giggled and turned a little in my seat. "And I am so proud of you for all that you've done. I'm sure your parents would agree with me on that."

He gave me a somewhat shaky smile and kissed the back of my hand before parking the car in front of the meeting hall.

"Thank you princess. Now let's go plan this ceremony."

Everyone else was already there when we entered and they greeted us politely but I could tell they were all excited. The group consisted of Alek, the beta, and his mate Lexie, Ruby and Ronnie were also here, and there were two other people I didn't recognize. I waved and said hi to all of them before sitting down on a chair next to Nikolai at the head of the table.

We talked about color schemes, matching stuff, decorations, food, dresses, and everything you could possibly imagine related to parties. I was mostly lost and only answered the questions directly asked at me that Nikolai would sometimes have to translate.

I found out the two other people were Madison and Valerie who were going to be taking care of hair, makeup, and dress for me.

Finally when the planned seemed to be sketched out and everyone knew exactly what they had to do we left and headed home.

"That was exhausting." I whined a little and closed my eyes. I could hear Nikolai chuckling and I turned to look at him.

"You did great Princess. I'll go over the plan with you after we eat something cause I know there were some things you didn't really catch and if you want to change anything you can let me know."

"Thank you!" I smiled gratefully and went back to resting my eyes as we drove home.

When we got there we had some dinner, talked over everything, I ended up doing some minor changes, and after that we showered and went to bed. I was starting to get a little nervous for next week but Nikolai's arms around me and the steady beating of his heart lulled me to sleep and all my worries were put on pause.
