"Yah, Taehyung!"
Hearing his name, his eyes blinked a few times. He hadn't noticed being lost in his thoughts again. "Huh?"
"Is everything alright?"
"Uh-huh, why?"
Jimin grinned and stood up from his desk. Grabbing the piece of paper that was in front of Taehyung and holding it up. "Because we're supposed to study for music history but you've been either making random noises with your mouth or doodling little arrows for the past ten minutes."
His brown eyes widened, quickly heaving the marker from his notebook. He had really been so immersed that he hadn't even realised doodling on it for so long. "Oh, sorry," he quickly mumbled. Snatching the paper from his friend's hand and crumbling it up. Making Jimin chuckle. "You really need to get it together."
"What? What do you mean?"
"I mean," he paused, folding his arms in front of his chest, "You're often out of it. But it recently happens quite often."
Taehyung wanted to protest, but couldn't. He wasn't sure, Jimin might have been right."It's about Cassandra right?" Jimin spoke up again.
Taehyung huffed playfully, trying to overact that his friend had in fact caught him. "No? What makes you think that?"
"Hm.. maybe 'cause I'm neither blind nor an idiot?" he grinned, sitting back on his desk chair. "Seriously, you gotta do something about her. You like her after all. Just ask her out or something."
"It's not t-"
"Shut up and listen," Jimin cut him off then with raised brows. He tried looking intimidating with that serious look in his eyes, but it only caused Taehyung to purse his lips to prevent himself from bursting out laughing. "Remember how Jin got Yong? He just went up to her and asked her for a date."
"Didn't she reject him three times?"
Jimin's lips formed a straight line. Staring at Taehyung. "The point is," he continued then, ignoring his remark, "He didn't beat around the bush. And she eventually said 'yes'. And remember how I got Bella?"
"You guys broke up after two weeks.." Taehyung was being a smartmess, which began to annoy Jimin. "Yes, okay. But I hadn't wasted months trying to get her to date me."
Taehyung sighed then, finding this conversation pointless. Especially considering Jimin didn't have all facts of everything that had happened between him and Cassandra. Taehyung knew that he only wanted to help him, like he always did when he struggled with something and he really appreciated his friend for this, but in this specific situation it was pointless. "I'm sure she hates me by now, though.""Who? Cassandra?"Jimin asked surprised, "I'm pretty sure she doesn't. Didn't she bring your drunk ass back home, put you into bed and even stayed by your side the whole night?"
Taehyung just hummed, not able to deny it.
"And didn't she let you cheer her up a few days ago?"
"Maybe.."
"And all that despite whatever had happened last time you went to her house and you don't wanna talk about?"
"It was nothing, I just said something dumb. That's all," Taehyung mumbled and awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. Downplaying the effect that 'dumb' remark had on his and Cassandra's overall relationship.
"Just answer the question, Taehyung."
He lightly groaned at his persistence. "Okay, yes. You're right."
Jimin's lips tucked into a smirk then. Content with being right. "Doesn't sound to me like she'd hate you then. Rather that she likes you, a lot. Despite whatever dumb thing you said to her. So yeah, you gotta do something. Apologise for whatever you said and that's it-"
Taehyung sighed, laying back on the other boy's bed. His eyes resting on the white ceiling above him. "Do you think I haven't tried already?"
"Surely there's something you haven't yet."
"Like what?" he snorted.
"I don't know," Jimin shrugged, "How about being honest with her? I know you suck in this but.. really, just tell her how you feel about her."
"And what if she won't listen?"
"Then make her listen," he grinned, turning around in his chair and facing the books and notes on his desk. "And now, back to the music of the 1970s. I can't fail the exam because of you being a chicken."Someone knocked on the door then, opening it. Jungkook entering the room.
"You want ice cream?"
Taehyung instantly perked up, sitting straight. "We have ice cream?"
He nodded. "Yoongi brought some and I'm gonna eat it all, so hurry," he said with a wide grin, disappearing into the corridor.
"Don't you dare!" Jimin yelled, before jumping from his chair. Followed by Taehyung. Both running after the younger one.»»»
Even hours later of Jimin's lecture Taehyung wasn't able to get their discussion out of his head. Now laying in his own bed, he thought of a way to proceed with his original plan of talking things out with her. However, he feared that words alone wouldn't be enough.
Words were quite shallow and empty. You could say anything, but if your actions didn't match, your words were pretty useless. And his previous behaviour towards her had often not matched with his actual feelings. He feared that after all his contradicting moves, she wouldn't believe anything he would say to her anymore. Even if he was being sincere. He turned to the side then, catching a glimpse of the silver book she had left there. Remembering the black plastic bag he had stuck in its binding. He stood up, getting it out of his desk drawer and sat back on his bed to open it. Finding all the scraps of paper with his songs in it. He started unfolding them, one by one, and reread the words on them.
Some lines were quite cringy or corny, now looking over them again. However, most were still quite good to him, they could be useful in the future. He opened another one then, his ees turning into a forwn. He recognised the lyrics as his, but the handwriting was different from his. Puzzled, he turned the paper. Seeing the same handwriting but other lyrics, which seemed to go along with the previous ones he had written.
The handwriting seemed quite feminine and cute. Had Cassandra done this? Had she read his songs?
No, that was the only one she had continued -if she was the one who had written that in the first place. But then again, who else could have done it?Taehyung read her lines over and over again. Was that how he made her feel? Stuck?
He then read through his own lyrics. Then grabbed the book and read through its pages as well. Reminding himself of their little astronomy classes and all the things she had told him about. And that was when he found it. The only thing that could compare to how she made him feel.»»»
Another too warm summer day that made Cassandra contemplate if that season of the year was really that great after all.
She had spent the afternoon after their exam at the mall with René. It was the only cool place around. He soon had to leave though and she ended up strolling around the stores. She wasn't in the mood to get back home yet and didn't know any other place to go to in that heat. Her feet eventually taking her to the book store. She walked through the aisles, a familiar feeling running through her body. Encountering the science aisle then. Her fingertips lightly grazed over the various books' spines. Tripping over one that had a different lining.
It was completely black, the material shiny. There was nothing on the cover but for the title: Solaris & Lunaris - Stars, Planets & Satellites.
She grabbed it, looking at it carefully. It was the size of 'Polaris' and the design was the same, except for the fact that this one was black and the other one was silver. Making them look totally different. It reminded her of Taehyung and her. Complete opposites.
He was the sun and she was the moon. She was cold, dwelling alone in the dark, in her own little world. But he burned and was shining, attracting people around him. He only saw the good in her, while she saw both, the good and the bad, in him. And yet, she kept letting him in, even after saying multiple times that she would be through with him. For the simple reason that the star always drew everything into its orbit. Especially small, ordinary satellites like her.
Even after messing up, he remained the only person she wanted to talk to. Whether about her interests, random thoughts, when being happy or distressed. Because when it came to these things, they didn't seem to be that different after all.
Thinking about it now, she had never given him a chance to explain. He had seemed like wanting to tell her something, when coming to her house last week, but her crying had cut him off. Maybe it wasn't anything important, but if it was, he might have lost the courage to mention it again. Which made her sad.
It made her sad because she felt that all this was partially her own fault. She had been mad over Taehyung not being clear and sending her mixed signals. But perhaps she wasn't that innocent either. If she hadn't wasted opportunities to tell him she liked him as well back then, things might have gone differently. And they might have even been together now.Cassandra looked at the book in her hand. She would have loved to show it to Taehyung.
With a sigh, she opened it then. Noticing a small annotation in a corner.
"Continuation to 'Polaris - Northern & Southern Lights' "She smiled. That gave her hope.
Maybe they weren't different books after all. Maybe they were the continuation to each other. And therefore needed the other to be complete.
