After dealing with heartbreak and family drama, Mackenzie Sloan packs up her bags and heads to Seattle as she's offered an internship at Seattle Grace Hospital, one of America's greatest internship programs. Once she's there, she sees two people from her past who she shares secrets with. One being her a family friend and the other...her ex boyfriend.

Going to a state school for her medical degree was something she chose on her own. Her parents were distant and her brother, Mark, was too busy with his own job to help her out. So, after she turned eighteen she set out on her own with enough money to get her through college. Even with going to a school that wasn't as prestigious as the other interns, she knew what she was doing.

Seattle is different for her; it's rainy, cold, and quite depressing at times. However, she sees a future here. She's growing close friendships with her fellow interns and there's no better way to become a great neurosurgeon than learning under the Derek Shepherd (although their relationship isn't like it was at first). Mackenzie's confident that she will make it here and become one of the best surgeons this hospital has ever seen.

Even when heartbreak, tragedy, and some unforeseen events happen throughout the years, she always has her friends behind her, her family.
