Chapter 38

Lizzie climbs onto my back and I calmly walk back to the pack. The pack follows me and Elijah walks next to me. Lizzie looks around the forest in amazement. She's never been this late in the woods. I try to imagine what she sees now. Little fireflies, the moonlight casting shadows on the trees, rabbits, maybe foxes. And I know from my own childhood that as a small child you have a lot of respect for your Alpha and Luna. And Lizzie is now on the back with her Luna. That is very special for her.
Lizzie reaches for the fireflies flying close to her. I smile, as much as I can as a wolf, and walk towards a group of fireflies. When they fly directly above us I stop. The flies fly a little lower. And keep flying lower until they fly around Lizzie's head and one settles on my fur. Lizzie takes a deep breath and catches the fly with her hands. She screeches with pleasure. I walk to the pack again.

P.o.v Lizzie

The Luna comes out with the Alpha. He gives a speech and then walks in to transform. A moment later they come out again. The Luna is wolf-shaped in the doorway and looks at everyone in the pack. Then she looks at me. I hesitate for a moment, but then run forward. My mom isn't going to like this, but I trust my Luna. I loved it so much the last time I sat on her back! I wanted to be like my parents, but since I sat on her back with the Luna, she has been my role model.
I run forward. Some wolves try to stop me but I'm too fast. I run to her and hug her paw. I look up. "Can I sit on your back, Luna?" She looks at me first and then back to the rest of the pack. Oops ... I can already guess who's coming. My mom comes forward and mind links something to the Luna. Oh no..... She pulls me back to her place. I don't want to go! I struggle to get loose, and strangely enough it works. She lets go of me and walks back to her place. The Luna looks at me and lies down. Yes! I climb on her back and she follows the Alpha to the river.

My parents told me about the initiation ritual. We go to a place in the forest and all the wolves start howling at the moon. Then they lie down as a sign that they accept the new Luna or Alpha. They have also said that a wolf only goes through that once in their life. And so I am very happy that I was allowed to come along. The other wolves leave their untransformed children at home, but I 'can go if I behave'.

We arrive at the river and the Luna stands on the rock. I slide back and forth a bit, I want to stand myself. She understands what I mean and lies down so I can get off. I get off and see that everyone is ready. The Luna starts to cry at the moon and one by one everyone imitates her.
I want to be like them later! A few minutes later they suddenly stop. The pack lies down as a sign that they accept the Luna. I look at her. She stands proudly next to me looking at the pack.
Suddenly everything comes in.
I am special. Other children do not sit on the back of the Luna several cores, and do not stand next to her during the initiation ritual. I am completely happy.

Everyone walks on the way back. And I'm glad I'm not walking alone, the forest is dark and creepy. I see rabbits hopping around happily through the forest. And even a fox. There are squirrels in the trees. And in the distance are fireflies! The forest is getting less and less scary. De Luna approaches a group of fireflies and stops. The flies get lower and lower until they fly past my head and one is on her fur. I catch the fly with my hands and look at it. How beautiful!

I look up. We are already at the houses, too bad. De Luna walks to my house and lies down so that I can get off. "Sleepy Luna" I say when I stand in the doorway. My parents are transforming inside to their human form. "You can also call me Amy." I suddenly hear.
I was shocked but then realized that it is the Luna. "Sleep well Amy" I say before closing the door.
