EVERYONE HAS LOVED and been loved at some point in their lives, whether they realise it or not. And often people don't realise that because, well, love doesn't always win.

Sometimes, there are circumstances outside of your control. Sometimes, there is no fight that can be had because it's over before it even had a chance to begin. Sometimes, you fall for the wrong person.

Wrong time.
Wrong place.
Wrong lifetime.

Or maybe it's you. Maybe you are the error in the equation.

Regardless of the reason, sometimes your only option is to ignore the psychotic screaming in your heart and learn to live with the relentless voices that cry 'what if?'

Which leads me to wonder - how many of the greatest love stories and heartbreaks have gone untold, buried deep within people's hearts?

Striding through the crowded school corridors with my notebook clutched to my chest, I briefly wondered about the secrets each of these people held close to their own chests.

Do they have someone they would betray their nation for? Someone they would choose, in this life and in every other life?

Beside me, Sara and Miyu bickered over the practicalities of a kissing booth, presumedly like the ones in movies.

Does the one they kiss and hold at night, love them back?

Tomomi and Haru walked ahead of us, heads bowed in a deep conversation about outdoor stage logistics for the Festival.

Is the one they love, someone they should love?

'Haru?'

The raven-haired boy glanced back over his right shoulder and cocked his head.

'Mmm? You've been pretty quiet today. What's up?'

'I need to attend to some unfinished business. Can you cover for me at the meeting this afternoon?'

He immediately came to a stop and flashed me a crooked smile.

'You know that I'd do anything for you.'

Sara and Miyu paused and shared a look.

With every victory you achieve in life, you also make an enemy. It comes with the territory.

Now, stepping onto enemy territory was nothing unusual for me. If anything, it was probably part of my weekly routine - from crossing the net to the other side of the court, to visiting other schools under the guise of forming diplomatic relations and undertaking Prefecture-wide projects.
