IT had been a while since Ellie had last talked to Fred Weasley.
The last time they had talked was that day on the bench. It was like they had both been avoiding each other.
But Ellie didn't mind.
They weren't exactly friends.
We're they?
It was a cold January day and many people were inside in their common rooms. Ellie however was sitting with Jane and Chase at the library.
"You know Defense Against the Dark Arts is a really odd subject." Chase spoke.
"Oh yeah, why is that?" Jane asked, while rewriting her homework because it apparently wasn't perfect.
"I don't know it's just weird." Chase replied.
Ellie and Jane just looked at each other and smiled.
Then, Ellie kept on thinking about how weird Professor Quirrell was.
She just felt something off.
"I don't have anything against the subject really but, Professor Quirrell seems really odd." Ellie spoke.
"I think you're just paranoid." Jane replied.
"Maybe Ellie's right." Chase admitted.
"Maybe, only time will tell." Jane advised.
Time.
Jane was right.
Only time will tell.
Mostly because the world would be confusing without time.
"I still think I'm right." Ellie protested.
Jane just rolled her eyes.
Ellie just huffed and started reading a book.
In the book it talked about werewolves and the difference between them and an animagus.
It talked about how a werewolf had no choice to turn into one.
Ellie had gotten so into the book that she didn't even hear someone calling her name.
"Ellie!" Jane yelled.
"What." Ellie spoke.
"Let's go, we're going to be late for dinner." Jane spoke.
"Oh sorry." Ellie replied, as she put her stuff in her bag and got up from her table.
The three of them walked out of the library and started to head to the great hall.
"Ellie what were you reading you looked so focused?" Chase asked.
"Oh it was a book about the differences of a werewolf and an animagus." Ellie replied.
"Wait, we don't learn about that until like third year." Jane spoke.
"I know, it's just the topic seemed interesting." Ellie exclaimed.
"Maybe Brandon is right, you are a nerd." Chase spoke, Ellie just rolled her eyes at him.
Just then Cedric walked up to them.
"Are you guys going to the great hall?" Cedric asked.
"No we're going to the lake." Jane replied, sarcastically.
Cedric just rolled his eyes. and ruffled Janes hair.
"Hey!" Jane shot.
Cedric has ended becoming close with the girls.
And like Chase they looked up to him as an older brother.
Well Ellie did. Jane was still warming up to him.
"Whatever Jane." Cedric teased.
"Cedric are you excited to beat Gryffindor!" Chase exclaimed.
"You bet!" Cedric cheered.
Chase just smiled at Cedric.
Just then Cedric groaned as he saw that Gryffindor had just finished quidditch practice.
And then they walked up to them.
"Diggory." Oliver spoke.
"Wood." Cedric spoke.
Chase just gave a wide eye, while Jane and Ellie just rolled their eyes at him.
"Nervous for us to beat you?" Oliver questioned.
"Funny I was going to ask the same thing." Cedric spoke.
"Touche." Oliver said.
Just then Angelina Johnson looked at Ellie, Chase, and Jane. Then she whispered something into Katie Bell's ear which made Katie laugh.
Cedric noticed this and stared at her.
"Something funny girls?" Cedric queried.
Angelina and Katie both quickly blushed of embarrassment.
"N-no." Angelina stuttered.
Ellie and Jane looked at each other and laughed.
"Ok maybe your not so bad Diggory." Jane exclaimed, patting his back.
"Thanks." Cedric replied, still glaring at Angelina and Katie.
Cedric had grown very protective of the three first years which is why he didn't trust Angelina.
By the stories the three had told him.
Just then Cedric walked up to Oliver and whispered something.
Oliver whispered something back and the two started whispering things to each other.
Just then Ellie saw the Weasley twins. Fred was annoyed by something George had been saying.
Fred then looked at her and smiled, and she smiled back.
"Should we walk in now?" Ellie asked, looking at Jane.
"Yeah probably." Jane replied.
"Cedric were going to go inside ok." Chase assured.
"Save me a seat?" Cedric asked.
Chase nodded and they walked inside.
"See you guys." Chase spoke, then went to go sit at the Hufflepuff table.
Ellie and Jane went to go sit with Brandon and Rosie.
"What took you guys so long?" Rosie asked.
Just then Cedric and the Gryffindor team walked in.
"Wow they seem tense." Brandon pointed out.
"What do you expect this year is the best Hufflepuff has been? I mean they even beat Slytherin." Rosie exclaimed.
"But they didn't beat us, haha." Brandon chirped.
"Oh shut it." Rosie shot and slapped him.
"Ow." Brandon groaned.
—————————————
"WHAT'S wrong with you guys?" Lee asked, as he saw the twins looked annoyed as they sat down.
"Wood's been up my arse that's what's wrong." Fred whined.
"He's only up your arse because Charlie was better than us." George proclaimed.
"Oh shut it George." Fred shot.
George just rolled his eyes.
Even though the Weasley twins were brutal in quidditch. George was always better at quidditch than Fred. But Fred was always better at pranks. Always.
Fred then took a bite of pizza. He didn't know why he wanted it, but he just did.
"After all the options you choose pizza." Percy spat.
"Yes. And it's delicious." Fred sassed.
Percy rolled his eyes.
"So have you talked to Ellie recently?" George asked.
"Not really, the last time I talked to her was the day before term started." Fred replied.
"Really? I talked to her the other day." George spoke.
Then that feeling he felt before came back.
Jealously.
Fred always forgot that George and Ellie we're friends.
"What did you guys talk about?" Fred asked.
"Oh we talked about her crush." George lied.
Then Fred's face fell.
"She likes someone?" Fred queried.
"No. I was just lying." George replied, with a smirk
Fred just rolled his eyes at his brother.
"Here." George said.
He gave Fred half of his pumpkin pastie.
"Thanks." Fred thanked.
"Yeah, yeah give me half of your muffin." George shot.
Fred just rolled his eyes at him and gave him the half.
"Pleasure doing business with you." George stated.
Fred just chuckled.
"I can't believe what just happened!" Angelina protested, as she sat down.
"What the hot guy catching you being rude?" Fred queried.
"I wasn't being rude!" Angelina shot.
"Yes you were. I literally heard you making fun of Chase." Fred replied.
"Please what I said is true, he's a coward." Angelina spoke.
"No it's not, he's just a shy boy." George piped in.
"Ugh whatever. Fred does this change your opinion of me?" Angelina asked.
"Yes." Fred and George replied, in unison.
Angelina just huffed and left.
"She forgot her food." Oliver stated.
"Let her starve." Lee muttered.
"Lee Jordan!" Percy spat.
"What." Lee replied.
George and Fred started to chuckle at the statement.
"Wait why does Angelina care about my opinion?" Fred asked.
"Because she likes you, you big idiot." George exclaimed.
"Oh." Fred said.
He had forgotten about that.
"You don't like her?" Lee questioned.
"No." Fred replied.
"Is it because of Ellie?" George asked, with a smirk.
"No!" Fred shot.
George and Lee started to chuckle.
"Our bet is still on." Lee replied.
"That's not fair he didn't even say anything during the break." George protested.
Fred just rolled his eyes at them.
"I'm leaving." Fred shot, taking his half of the pumpkin pastie with him.
"Fred where are you going?" George shouted.
Fred just walked out of the great hall and went to go sit down at the bench. That he would run into Ellie sometimes.
Then he thought of Ellie.
And how she was a cute tiny first year.
Only a cute tiny first year.
But he couldn't stop thinking about her.
He wanted to stop really.
But he just couldn't.
It's not like he liked her.
He just wanted to talk to her.
Which is what he told himself.
—————————————
ELLIE was getting ready to go to the quidditch game and she was exhausted.
The previous night her and Rosie had been talking about Jake. Rosie ended up talking to him and he asked her out to the quidditch game.
The only reason Rosie had doubts was because she felt really bad for Chase.
Ellie assured her that Chase would be fine. She didn't add the part where Chase said that they would end up together.
It didn't seem that important.
Just then Ellie walked down to the common room. She had just finished doing pigtail braids.
"Hey, nice hair." Rosie complimented.
"I know." Ellie replied.
Rosie rolled her eyes at her sister.
"Are you excited for your date?" Ellie asked.
"It's not a date." Rosie shot.
"Oh right you're just hanging out with a boy." Ellie replied.
"Shut up." Rosie whispered.
Brandon walked down and saw the girls. Rosie forced Ellie to not say anything about Jake.
"What are you guys talking about?" Brandon questioned.
"Nothing." Rosie shot.
"What's up your butt?" Brandon queried.
"Just shut up." Rosie spoke.
Brandon just rolled his eyes and put on his coat.
"I finally don't have to freeze." Brandon spoke.
Ellie and Rosie just rolled their eyes.
"Hey look we're all matching! Except Rosie's wearing a skirt. Weird, but ok." Brandon spoke.
"Oh shut up." Rosie said.
Then Rosie left the common room.
"Does she know that Jake asked the two of us for permission after the twins spilled the beans?" Brandon asked.
"Nope." Ellie replied.
Brandon just laughed and ruffled Ellie's hair.
Ellie just slapped him.
"Ow. Come on let's go cheer on Cedric." Brandon spoke.
And just like that they both left to go to the quidditch field.
————————————
"GUYS we can beat Hufflepuff I just know it!" Oliver informed.
"Dude we know." George spoke.
"You've been saying this for half an hour." Fred added.
Oliver just rolled his eyes at them.
"Anyone else have something to say?" Oliver questioned, while he glared at the twins.
"Yeah, um can you do the spell to fix my glasses?" Harry Potter asked.
Oliver just rolled his eyes and took out his wand.
"Oculus reparo." Oliver casted.
"Thank you." Harry thanked, with a grin.
Fred and George just looked at each other and smiled.
"Let's go play quidditch!" The twins yelled.
And all of a sudden they all got out on the field and heard people cheering.
Fred looked over at the Ravenclaw section and saw Ellie.
She wasn't wearing normal pigtails, but he still thought it looked cute.
"And Gryffindor is on the field!" Lee announced.
And then the crowd went up in roars.
"Go Cedric!" Chase yelled.
"He's not even out yet!" Ellie yelled.
"What!" Chase yelled.
"He's not out yet!" Jane yelled.
"Then where is he?" Chase shouted.
Just then Hufflepuff came out.
"Go Cedric!" Chase yelled.
Just then Brandon started cheering like a mad man.
"Legend!" Brandon cheered.
Ellie just rolled her eyes at her immature brother.
"Gryffindor is in the lead by ten points but Hufflepuff is catching up quickly." Lee announced.
"Come on Cedric." Chase yelled.
"You do know that Cedric's only purpose is to catch the snitch right?" Ellie questioned.
"Oh yeah, I forgot." Chase replied.
Ellie and Jane just chuckled.
Just then Ellie saw the golden snitch right in front of her eyes.
It was right next to one of the twins.
She couldn't really tell the difference because they were so high up.
Then she realized that it was Fred.
Mostly because she heard George yell out his name.
Fred quickly sped away but the snitch was still there.
But just then Cedric found it.
"Cedric Diggory caught the snitch!" Lee announced.
"Yay Cedric!" Chase yelled.
Ellie smiled and then she looked up and saw the Weasley twins look disappointed.
"I told you he was a legend." Brandon spoke.
"Shut up." Jane shot.
"Ok." Brandon whined.
Ellie just looked back to Gryffindor. It was obvious they looked disappointed, and Ellie felt terrible.
Mostly just for a boy named Fred Weasley.
But she didn't want to admit that.
Because she's so stubborn.
——————————————
FRED was sitting in the Gryffindor common room disappointed that they had lost.
The snitch was right next to him, and he couldn't call Harry.
George tried to say it wasn't his fault because he didn't notice.
Fred just ignored him.
"Fred it's ok." George shot, shaking him violently.
Fred just shrugged and got up.
"I'm going to the library." Fred announced, George just nodded.
He knew Fred wanted space for a bit.
Fred rushed to the library and sat down at a table and put his head down.
He didn't really care who was there, so he kept his head down and ended up randomly falling asleep.
After what felt like a few minutes he felt a tap on his shoulder.
He lifted his head up confused and then he saw Ellie.
"Hey sleepy head." Ellie teased, with a smile.
"What time is it?" Fred questioned. His voice raspy.
"It's 7:30, dinners ending soon you should probably go." Ellie exclaimed.
"Thanks." Fred spoke.
Then Ellie smiled at him.
"How long have I been asleep?" Fred asked.
"I don't know I got in here at like around 5:45 and you were passed out." Ellie exclaimed with a laugh.
"Oh shut it Elle." Fred shot, Ellie just smiled.
Just then Ellie shook her head.
"You need to eat." Ellie demanded.
"I'll go one second." Fred stated, he stood up and saw Ellie stare at him.
"Well did you eat?" Fred asked.
"Not yet." Ellie replied.
"Why not?" Fred questioned.
"I have a slow metabolism so it takes a while for me to get hungry." Ellie explained.
"Well you should probably still come." Fred advised.
"Ok fine." Ellie replied. Fred just smiled and held out his hand to help her up.
"You know I can get up from a chair right?" Ellie queried.
"Yeah." Fred smirked.
Ellie just rolled her eyes at him.
Then they both started walking towards the great hall.
"Why do you look tense?" Ellie asked.
Fred just stared blankly at her.
He had forgotten about how Gryffindor lost.
"No reason." Fred muttered.
"We both know you're lying." Ellie exclaimed.
"Shut up." Fred shot, with a smile.
She had noticed something about him. Which made him feel happy.
Ellie just rolled her eyes at him.
"What's wrong?" Ellie questioned.
Fred then sighed.
"I don't know. I guess I just feel bad that I didn't see the snitch." Fred replied.
Ellie just laughed.
"What?" Fred shot.
"Sorry, it's just you get tense over the dumbest things." Ellie exclaimed.
"Do not!" Fred shot.
"Yes you do." Ellie smirked.
"Really, how?" Fred asked.
"You were freaking out over a girl you didn't even like." Ellie explained.
Fred just nodded.
"Ok maybe you're right this time." Fred agreed.
Ellie just rolled her eyes at him.
"I have a question for you Elle." Fred admitted.
"Ok. What is it?" Ellie asked.
"Are we friends?" Fred asked.
"Sure." Ellie replied.
Fred just stared at her with a shocked expression.
"Really! I thought you hated me." Fred advised.
"You're not the first to think that." Ellie replied.
"So we're friends?" Fred wondered.
"We're friends." Ellie responded, with a smile and then walked into the great hall.
Fred just smiled.
He stood there for a second and then quickly went inside.
Fred did a quick sigh of relief when he saw that people were still eating.
Then he sat next to George.
"Where were you?" George asked. Taking a bite of chicken.
"I told you in the library." Fred replied, grabbing a piece of chicken from George's plate.
"Hey!" George shot.
Fred just rolled his eyes.
"Let me guess you fell asleep." Percy spoke.
"No. Maybe. Yes." Fred replied. Sinking his teeth into the chicken smiling.
"Amateur." Percy muttered, Fred just glared at him.
"Well screw you Percy." Fred complained.
Then he started having a conversation with George and Lee.
Who were talking about pranks to play on Snape.
He then started stealing a couple glances towards Ellie.
Luckily she didn't notice.
After all she probably wouldn't find it weird.
Considering they were finally friends.
He smiled for a second, but then told George to shut up. When George had asked him who he was smiling about.
Even though he already knew the answer.
Ellie Smith.
