All Warfare is Deception

"Percy we need to talk...."

Turning to the side I saw a boy standing behind the small group we had formed.

"Alone" He finished after looking at me

"That's... well that's fine. Thalia and Grover need to hear this though" Percy answered

"That's fine, I trust you guys... it's just... the new guy is gonna need to leave"

Whatever the kid wanted to say, it seemed like I wasn't welcome to hear it.

"Sorry Mike, but can you go over there with the  members of the Hermes cabin. They'll help you with whatever else you need" Percy said

While I would want to know what's happening, I understood my current predicament.

"And make sure you stay away from my hunters, you seem like a good guy; but all of my hunters hate men so...." Thalia said apologetically

"It's fine, I understand" I said

Dragging out this conversation would lead to nowhere. Though I would need more than just "hunter" as a description, I'd rather not get into a fight just because of my gender.

They slowly walked away, just out of earshot from everyone else. That is, except for me.

In my school life, observing was the thing I was best at. Catching small details, or hearing specific words through loud chattering. While I couldn't hear all of it, there were some words that slipped through.

"...Spy...."

"....Scythe...."

"....Destroy...."

With this, I understood most of the situation. And what my next plans were.

After listening to part of their conversation I decided to begin my own assignment. If a war was to break out, I needed at least a weapon to defend myself.

I began to slowly walk towards the Hermes cabin, or at least what I assume was what Percy called the Hermes cabin.

What he had pointed to was a group of rowdy teenagers, most with blonde or brown hair and tall physiques. As I did, a few of them turned their head to me, before turning around and talking amongst themselves.

Out of the crowd emerged a familiar face.

"Mike! I saw you got claimed earlier, really though, never took you for a drunkard" Connor states while smiling

"Is he really that bad of a father?" I asked

"Well, im not too sure, but he's a pretty terrible camp director" He said briskly

So this camp they went to, was directed by a god? What a sight to behold

"Anyway, enough of that. Percy should've explained the situation, but if he didn't here's a quick recap. Titan...bad...we....fight. Got it? Good!"

Really, this boy had too much energy.

He grabbed my arm and began to drag me into another room. Opening the door to the hotel room, I gazed upon a large collection of ancient weapons.

"We're gonna have to do an emergency fitting on you, get some armor and weapons. We won't have you fighting too much since you're new, but it's just a precaution."

"Why do you guys use weapons like this, I'm sure a fire arm would work best?" I asked. If this was the same America as my last life's, getting a fire arm wouldn't even be too hard.

"The weapons of mortals have no effect on monsters. Only weapons of Celestial Bronze can hurt them. That's why we have to use these weapons"

"We could theoretically melt the weapons into bullets, but bullets wouldn't last as long as our swords would." Connor shook his head

"So monsters are immortal if you don't use celestial weapons?" I asked

"Well monsters are essentially immortal either way, when we kill a monster, all we really do is send it back down to Tartarus and wait for it to be reborn" Connor answered

"Then what's the point of fighting off monsters? There seems no point to it?"

"To survive" he answered, as if it was normal

That's right. I'd forgotten, in my search for a normal life I neglected to remember what my true goal is. Victory. The meaning of it might have changed, but in the end that was still what I needed to attain.

Victory meant living, while losing meant death. But... I'll be the victor in the end anyway. This I was sure of.

"Hey dude, are you sure you're fine without a shield? And your armor is pretty light, if you get hit once you might be done for" Connor questioned

"Yeah, the armor limits my movement too much. And the shield is too heavy to hold up with one hand" I answered

I decided to go with a light leather chest piece, and knee and elbow guards. Foregoing anything else.

"Look man, I just don't want you to die on your first day. Even your weapon choice is strange, I mean most would go for a sword right? At least swords are easier to learn than those" He continued

It was true that a spear may not be the best choice for a person new to weapons, but I wasn't new. He was correct with his thought process though, I was definitely better with a sword than I was with a spear.

However, with this bodies current limitations, swinging a sword for long battles wasn't possible. It also didn't help that the swords reach was shorter, meaning I would need quicker footwork.

My current plan was to win the battle from a further distance, before having to get close. That was the reason for my next choice.

"And a bow is probably an even worse decision. You don't have the time to learn it... well you could ask the hunters for pointers. But they'd probably use you as a target instead" he muttered

Apparently these hunters were well know for hating men. Judging by their title, and hatred of men, they must be a squad under Artemis.

Artemis, the goddess of hunting and chastity, she swore off men so it seems these hunters weren't her real children. Probably better to not say that out loud though.

"It's fine, I'm in an archery club" I responded

"An archery club? In New York?" He asked puzzled

Are those not normal here?

"Well, in any case, shooting a moving target isn't the same as shooting a target that's completely still. Especially the part where the moving target is trying to kill you" He said

"Well... it's better to use a weapon im familiar with, than to pick up a new one so suddenly" I responded

"Well, I can't argue with that.... just.... be careful." He looked at the bow in my hand, and then at me

"Wouldn't you know it, fate really is strange. Another Michael with a bow." He shook his head

"I've noticed it, but every time Michael is mentioned, everyone seems saddened" I wanted to get to the bottom of this

"It's just... he was the head counselor for the Apollo Cabin. Short dude, real fiery personality." He chuckled

"Was?...."

"Well, we're not sure but he took quite the dive when the bridge was destroyed. No one but a son of Poseidon could've survived that fall." Connor grimly looked at the floor

"I'm sorry to hear that"

"Don't be, it's not your fault. Just be careful." He said, walking away

Authors note: The battle should begin soon, maybe in a chapter or 2. I completely forgot how much Lore there was in Percy Jackson. Subsequently im having to shove most of it in so that the story is more coherent.

Special thanks to Taboada666 and funnily enough ArtemisFowl_ye. It's strange to see a person whose story you read comment on yours. Thank you for the support.

Happy Birthday Nik, hope you have a great day. Cuz we still gonna fight over Ayanokouji when the parties over, C'mere boy.
