Third P.O.V

The lights were off that night. The light of the moon, oozing in like butter through the window. The soft crackles of the blaze in front of them keeping them warm. He sat beside Pin that night on the couch. His head leaning against her shoulder, feeling every breath she took. He was at ease.

Months had passed since they had first arrived at Yoylecity. This was one of the few times he felt at ease within the city. He unconsciously nuzzled into Pin's arm, her breath hitching at the sudden movement. Their hands entwined, resting on her lap. She silently yawned, her eye trying to stay awake.

As much as he was at ease, Coiny couldn't help but wonder how Leafy was doing. It had been over a week since he had gone to check up on her. Plus, her birthday was around the corner. He wished to do something nice for her. She deserved it. He sighed softly, pressing himself against Pin.

Pin smiled in response, glancing down at him. Despite feeling utterly exhausted, she hummed. She wanted so hopelessly to go outside with Coiny. She figured that's why she kept pushing herself when it came to practicing–she just wanted to be with him. But she shoved the thought away. As much as she liked him, he didn't like her. Right?

Oh, shoot! Who am I kidding? It's more than obvious, she thought. She bit the inside of her cheek, her thoughts bouncing back and forth from each other. With the sudden sensation of something pulling at her hair, she looked to her side.

Coiny fiddling with a strand of her silver, he kept his sight to the fire ignited. The warm light sun-kissed his face. She could feel her cheeks grow warm. Was this the perfect time? The tranquillity of the room. The pleasant presence of each other. The fire burning with every second that ticked away.

It was more than perfect.

She yawned, catching on that it was presumably past her usual bedtime.

"Coiny," she began, garnering part of her roommate's attention. "Thanks for everything."

A small chuckle within the room as he continued to play with her hair. "You're my best friend. Why wouldn't I help you?" he stated, his eyes on the fire on the fireplace. He was listening, but he still couldn't help but think of 'what ifs' scenarios.

Despite just being friend-zoned, she couldn't help but smile. "I truly mean it, Coiny. Despite everything, you always stood by my side. No matter what." She sighed blissfully, before finishing with, "It's astonishing how nice you've been to me." Coiny caressed her hand, smiling with his eyes now stuck on the floor.

Silence fell on them like a fluttering blanket. She was well aware she liked him, as well of being aware he liked her.

Hearing the soft pops of the wood cracking and burning, she let out a heavy exhale.

"I think I like you Coiny."

He giggled, replying with a smile spread on his face, "I think I like you too, Leafy."

Everything was perfect.

It was a little too perfect.

Silence rang in the room, Coiny's eyes widening at the sudden realization of what he had just said. He had been lost in thoughts–thinking of Leafy. He opened his mouth to speak, Pin beating him to it.

"L-Leafy," she stuttered, almost as if questioning what had happened. She pushed herself up, no longer relaxed, but now sitting up straight. He glanced over at the girl beside him, his eyes scanning her face. Her expression doused with confusion and sorrow. He bit his lip, his head running in circles on how to explain it to her.

"I'm sorry, I was thinking of her a-and, I unconsciously blurted her name out. A-And I just," he stopped himself, realizing he was going nowhere with his words. Letting out a sharp exhale, he sat up, his mistake settling in his mind. He ran a hand through his hair, unsure of what to do.

"Why were you thinking of Leafy?"

Coiny faced Pin, who had her sight on her hands, the metal glistening with the fire's warm glow.

"I-I," he had no words. At least, that would save his skin at that moment.

"Her birthday is on March 9th. And since it is just around the corner, I can't help but," he stayed quiet, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. "I can't help but think about her." He could at least save himself in the long term. Right?

She pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to process all of it.

At least then Coiny got an answer to his question. How would she react to him meeting up with Leafy? Though this wasn't that reaction, it was more than enough to give him a response.

"I say she deserved exile. Stealing Dream Island from Firey was more than jealousy."

Yep. There it is, he thought. He only huffed out a sigh, pressing his hand onto his forehead.

"How old will she be, anyway? 18? 19," she questioned.

"19," he muttered. He still couldn't believe how young they all were. It felt like they had reached their 30s. But that was beside the point.

"It's not like we even know where she is to even celebrate, let alone have a party, Coiny," she commented, though she knew that was a lie. Everyone knew she was on the outskirts of Yoylecity. The ash of her campfires fluttering off the horizon. They simply didn't exactly know how far she was.

He sighed sluggishly, getting up from his seat. "Pin, we should head to bed. I'm–" He stayed quiet for a second, pondering in his word choice. "We're both tired. It's better to go to bed now than later." She stayed quiet, leaving Coiny waiting for a response.

"I'll head to bed soon." It was all she stated, without even glancing at him.

Coiny swallowed the lump of air that had been clogged in his throat. He was more than confident he deserved to be ignored. He had more than messed up. And he was very well aware of that. He glanced at her,

He gave her a small glance, his words following afterward barely audible. "Night PIn."

She didn't reply.

The sound of the door closing in the background of all the firewood scorching caught her off guard, but it reassured her he was no longer in the room. She buried her face in her hands, every part of her just wanting to cry. Her mind wanting to comprehend what had just happened. How had that gone so horribly wrong?

The soft inhales of anxiety that rose and fell from her chest were loud in the room. How long had she been wanting to say those words. I like you. How much had she craved those words back from him. I like you too, Pin. But those words that she had so desperately wanted–ones that she had thought for so long to be true–were now woven with another girl's name.

Pin buried her face deeper into her hands. She knew better than to cry over this. Regardless, it was a mistake. Right? She let her hands fall to her lap, her head hanging as her eyes fixed on the floor.

She sighed as she reclined herself against the couch. Pin aware that Coiny and Leafy had been great friends in Season One. So was she, but...

PIn ran her hand through her silver locks. Memories of season one rushing through her. Everyone was well acquainted with Leafy. She was–well, not completely nice–but friendly enough to get along. She shook off the thoughts and memories.

She didn't want to have empathy for someone like Leafy. A lier. A thief. A traitor to the entire cast. She believed that her exile was justified. And she would stand with sentiment till' who knows when.

Maybe it was a mistake. She shouldn't be hard on him.

She quietly groaned, standing up as she kept her sight on the fire. She would have to put out the fire. And she would have to apologize to Coiny.
