Partner in crime

"Hey! You!"
The little girl called Sasha screams.

The new boy slowly turned around. Pure innocence in his eyes.
"Y-Yeah?"

Sasha and her group approach him like a band of gangsters. A big smile on her face.

Everyone in the cafeteria has their eyes on her and she loves it.

"You're new, aren't you?"

Bunny looking guy gulps.
"Ew what is he wearing?!"
"Are you poor?!"
"Stay away from him, you'll get all his bacteria!"

Every person started laughing at him. Tears were burning in his eyes. A waterfall would come out of them any second now.

"Are your parents dead?"

"Stop it!"
I throw my sandwich to the group and make my way over there:

"Stay out of this, Nova." Sasha warns.

I flash her a death glare as I help the guy that fell in shock up.
"Remember who you're talking to, Sasha."

The girl knows my family is powerful. Overtime she got tired of these threats and didn't care anymore.

However when she was a little kid...she would shit her pink stupid pants.

"Are you okay?"

The guy leans onto my little body and we go outside. For fresh air.

"Sit down. No one will bother us here."

I dust his place off before I let hem get comfortable at the old tree.

The little boy nods at my earlier question. Thank god we were just kids or they would've beat the crap out of him.

I sit next to him and I didn't notice he was slightly crying.

Until I heard his sniffles.

"Why are you crying? Don't cry. It won't lead you anywhere. You're wasting your time.."

My harsh words immediately stopped his crying. He didn't expect that. I don't think any child would. But what can you expect from a girl that's been told that for her entire life?

"S-Sorry..."
"Don't apologise. You look pathetic."

I could hear him gulping loudly. I think I made him even more uncomfortable.

"What's your name?"

He didn't answer me. Like he was scared.

"Fine. I'm Nova Maes. Who are you?"
I turn to get a clear look at the little boy.

"Rey."

"And that dear children is how I met him."
Liam and Anastasia stare at us from the ground with big eyes.

"You were pretty rude." Liam confesses.
I shrug.

"I still am pretty boy."
"Don't threaten my brother like that!"

I rolled my eyes.
"Ana...would I ever threaten your friend?"
"Absolutely not!"

We high five each other after out little moment.
I raised her damn fucking well.

"Who wants some cookies!"
The two kids jump around Katy who just entered the living room.

Katy only gave them some after they sat down.

Like behaved little kids.

"They're cute."
I agree. It's just like how we used to be.

"I hope he doesn't turn out like you did."
"Same here, you heartless person."

We tease each other about our past and walk to the garden.
"I missed this garden."

"I didn't." I respond.
"What do you mean?"

"It reminds me of unwanted stuff and memories." Rey sighs.

"What exactly happened to you Nova? I know I...went away but I want to know...what you went through."
A deep chuckle leaves my throat.

"Rey."
"Hm?"

"Trust me. It's better if you don't. It'll only eat you up with guilt. And it'll burst me out of my little bubble. Forget it...will ya?"

"That's not the issue Nova."
I turn to him. "What?"

His gaze suddenly darkens.  A feeling I can't describe invades me and increases the more I look at the man that says:

"The question is...will you ever forget?"

I chuckle. "You're ridiculous."
He soon joins me.

"Oh I have a question."
"What is it?"

His tone sounds a little worried after I asked the question with a shaky voice: I really, really don't want to do this.

"Dad invited me to a ball. I need a companion."

I simply blurt out.
"Y-Your dad?"

Rey didn't want to meet him. I understand that. He feels guilty. I pat him on the back.

"Don't worry. He won't recognise you. You changed drastically."
It's true. The man went from 3 to 100.

"Are you sure?"
I nod, not hesitating.

"So...will you be my partner?"
Rey's arm links with mine.

"Not just any partner..."

"Partner in crime."
