You sat down at your desk at school, quietly. You watched the teacher walk in the classroom, she had a few papers with her, "Settle down, class!"The teacher said ringing a small bell as a sign to stop talking. That caused the class to stop talking and pay attention to the teacher, "Okay class, now that I have your attention. Today is the start of community service week, you all are old enough for it. You will all get a partner and I will chose what you'll do"The teacher said then started looking through her notes.

You hated community service week, a week spending your time doing stuff you're not even getting paid for, "Tony, you'll be with (Y/N)"The teacher said reading off her papers.

Tony was a kid that sat next to you in class, he was a Junior forest scout that would hang out at the creek after school.

After school you walked with Tony holding a box of trash bags, wearing latex gloves and in the other hand was a trash grabber. Your teacher assigned you and Tony to pick up trash around the place. "Can't believe I'm spending my after school doing this...We're not even getting paid..."You said picking up some more trash with Tony.

"Yeah...But at least we're getting a good grade and school ends early"Tony said picking up some more trash with his trash grabber, "Hey, Tony was it?"You asked turning to him, he nodded confirming his name. "I heard you like to be somewhere called the creek, was that true? Well, I was thinking we could pick up trash at the creek.  So we could be doing what we have to and still be doing what we like"You suggested picking up the final piece of trash.

Tony thought for sometime on your suggest, "Hm, alright sure. I can show you around the creek"Tony smiled then walked with you to the creek. "Why did they even come up with this? Is this just an excuse to get kids away from them?"You said picking up trash with Tony at the creek. "Thats what I thought! People don't even get paid for this! Its like..."Tony said.

"They're forced to!"You and Tony said at the same time.

You and Tony looked over to each other and laughed, "But for real, we should look for the brightside more, at least we got easier jobs the other ones sucked..."Tony said, you hopped on a rock in a pond and grabbed an empty soda can. "Yeah, the others were awful! I don't understand why the school even wants us to do it, its not like this'll be on our job application!"You joked.

"They probably don't want parents to think they're teaching us nothing..."Tony said picking up the final piece of trash, "Ha! Jokes on them, the stuff they teach us is useless! It definitely won't get us jobs or a place to stay..."You said. Tony smiled that he finally had someone to talk with, and you were smiling that you finally made a friend.

When what Tony explained to be the dinner horn went off, you and Tony stopped your chatting and joking while you picked up the trash. The two of you exchanged phone numbers and walked home already prepared to clean up more trash together tomorrow.
