Ode to Newfoundland

I've begged for time for far too long
For years I've spent asking for more
No land of my own, I've become stranger to my shores
I shall find my pace beyond the waters of this island

The truth I hold, I tell you no lies
I wish to flee this island I call home
I love this land for it brings me hope
But my past is something I wish to escape

I love the traditions and the people who roam
But I can't bring my heart to stay in my home
I wish to test others lands dirt
Perhaps their wind will carry my feet

I love this island with my whole damned heart
But the past is a chain I can no longer cut
All I can do is pretend to know how to run
And across the water to different land I will go

Do not mistake my words for hatred
I love thy smiling land
Where once our fathers stood we stand
God guard thee Newfoundland
