this is how i've decided to set their seats up in the classroom
———

After the whole "hole" situation, our group entered Mr. Matthews' class. He started the class with "Good morning and welcome to history. Who's ready to learn?"

"Whats that on the board?" Some girl that sat next to Riley asked.

"We were Kings. Now we're Patriots." Cory replys to the girl's question.

"Why does it say that? It's cryptic. You can't teach us cryptic. What are you trying to get away with? Huh?" If I was her, I would be confused, but I think I know where this is going.

Mr. Matthews thinks for a bit, trying to come up with an answer.

"I'll be right back." He says to her and walks over to Riley. The girl hummed in respoonse

"What's her name?" He asks his daughter.

Appearently Riley didn't know her name either because right after her dad asked her, she asked the girl "What's your name?"

"Marley."

"Marley." Riley replies to her father.

"No way, I thought it was George." I tell her sarcastically. I don't think she got the joke because she just turned her head back to her dad. I did, however, get a few snickers from the rest of the class.

Mr. Matthews continues on with his lesson. "Marley sees right through me."

"Just keep on teaching about our lives, and she'll come around." Riley tells him. Okay, I get that most of the lessons he teaches are about our friend group, buut she doesn't have to be that obvious about it.

"Abigail Adams was the wife of John Adams and the mama of Johnny Q." The class chuckled. "And I'll tell you that the one thing they understood about this brand-new nation was to stick together because every direction they turned was brand-new, undiscovered country."

"I am an Abigail Adams Patriot." Riley tells the class.

"How? We don't even get to walk in the hallways." Lucas asks her.

"Lucas, these seniors are older and more experienced than us, and I think that they're trying to help." Riley says after turning around and looking at him.

"Riley, they're making fun of us and we're letting it happen."

"But most of all, these patriots knew to remain loyal to each other because their survival depended on it in a dangerous, new land." Mr. Matthews tries to relate our off-topic converation back to history.
