"It should have been you."
These words have been repeating in Nakano's head for the past three days. Before her mother left the hospital the first night, that was the last thing she said to her.
At least her mom did her the mercy of not forcing her to stay away from her brother. Nakano knows all of this is her fault. The Toman versus Moebius conflict, which led to her brother nearly getting the life beaten out of him once again.
Pair all of this with the time leaping, the mission to save lives, socializing with people she'd very much rather kill, but somehow becoming friends with them. Not to mention, she's replaying and rewriting her life from twelve years in the past, which happens to be only a few months after she returned to Japan.
All of this is happening within the short span of a few weeks is also throwing her way off balance. And she doesn't know how much more of this she can take.
She tries her best to force those thoughts out of her head so she can take proper care of her brother while he's asleep. His friends and girlfriend came to see him, but she'd only respond with yes or no, or short and to the point answers when they asked her a bunch of questions.
She didn't sleep a wink. For seventy-two hours, she stayed awake by her brother's bed. It was like at any moment his heart rate monitor could go flat. She never showed it, but she was terrified. Terrified that her brother would die, and it would be her fault.
Her fault.
Moebius hunted Toman down because they thought someone from Toman killed and attacked their members. But it was her. They should've been going after her. What is she supposed to tell her brother?
Is she going to tell Manjiro? What would he do to her if he found out that all this was accidentally ignited by her? If he found out that his close friend was put in jail because of her.
'Is this why Toman is evil in the future? Because I killed people who deserved to die? Because I killed people...'
She ponders this as she walks through the halls of the hospital. Emma had arrived earlier and suggested that she should go for a short walk to get her blood flowing and body moving since she's been sitting for three days straight.
Nakano found Emma to be a very nice person. Even after whatever happened the night she first met her. All that aside, she grew to tolerate the honey eyed girl.
"Nakano-san!"
Speaking of a very nice person, another one approaches her. Her brother's girlfriend, and the main reason why they're in the past to begin with.
"Hinata-san," she greets hoarsely.
"How's Takemichi-kun today?" the pink haired girl questions worriedly.
"Still asleep." Nakano starts making her way back to her brother's room, with Hinata following close behind. "Emma's here too."
When they arrive, the pair make their way to Takemichi's bed. But as they get closer, they hear a strange muffled sound. As Nakano pulls back the curtain, she pauses with a raised brow. Her brother is awake, and Emma... Emma has her head in his lap, shaking while quiet sobs escape her mouth.
"Takemichi-kun, are you alr-"
Hinata pokes her head around the curtain as Nakano steps out of the way. The shorter girl grabs onto the curtain, an appalled look on her face. Honestly, Nakano doesn't blame her. The scene looks hella misleading.
"UH!? WUUH!?? That's disgusting!!!"
Nakano sighs and walks around the bed as her brother shoots his head up to look at his girlfriend. "I-It's not what it looks like, Hina!"
