Chapter 13

We got ready and walked downstairs to find the detective we had hired, already sat in our living room.

"Sir have you got news?"

I asked slightly too eagerly, but I didn't care. This was my sister we were on about.

"He hasn't told us the report yet"

My mother broke in, cupping her hands together and staring down in dismay.

"Why aren't you telling us, she's my sister."

Harsh words left my mouth before I could tell what was happening. Jake tugged me back once he realised I was getting frustrated.

"Come on, let's go to the kitchen while the detective has some time to think."

Jake pulled my arms back, I gave a death stare at my mum and dad for not protesting and left the room.

We entered my large kitchen and I leant on the sink, Jake towering over me and holding me so I would stop shaking.

"I need to know."

"I know,"

"Like, 2 days is enough. A lot more than what I can cope with. I need to know where my sister is"

I felt like the older one here, like it was my responsibility to keep Rose safe. But it was. I was supposed to keep her troubled mind from making her wonder off herself.

"Yeah, are you ok? You're shaking like crazy."

His warm arms held my freezing ones still and a shiver crept up my spine.

"Thanks for being here for me. I know this has got nothing to do with you but your still he-"

He stopped me by carefully placing his lips to mine, and I closed my eyes taking in the electricity that shot through my veins. I pulled away, staring into his rare green eyes and smiled, looking at the floor. Embarrassed with my kissing skills, I walking around to the opposite side of the kitchen counter and sat on the floor.

"What's up?" He said, a smirk crawling across his face.

"Nothing.."

"Come on, I already know you too well. I know something's bugging you."

"It's just, I don't really know how to properly.. You know.."

"If you're talking about kissing, then you're obviously wrong."

I couldn't help but the stop the grin spreading across my face.

"Thanks."

"But I know you're kind of uncomfortable with the relationship stuff, so we'll put kissing on hold, yeah?"

"That's really kind of you."

I giggled the awkwardness off, but soon there was none. I felt at home when I was around Jake. Finally, I leant my head on his broad shoulders and pushed my worries about Rose away for just a few minutes.
