Sometimes, (O.K., always) everyone gets things mixed up.
Both Peso and Pinto have English as a second language, and they sometimes use a Spanish word instead of English by mistake. Such as when Peso was scolding Pinto and Jane about something called, "No stealing Koshi's book and hiding it in his medical cabinet." And he forgot the word "book", so he started saying "libro" 3 times before he finally remembered it.
Dashi makes lesson plans for Shellington all the time because he forgets what he's supposed to teach the kids, and gets nervous so easily, but once he accidentally picked up a talk on octopus reproduction that he was supposed to give Inkling's coworkers, and didn't figure it out until AFTER he started teaching the 2 older kids. By then it was too late.
The Vegimals are so sweet, but they get mixed up super SUPER easily. Whenever they look at Peso and Pinto, they can't tell who's who. Whenever someone tells them to "hug Pinto." They go find both of them, and hug them both just to be safe.
Sometimes, Peso will call Captain Barnacles "papa" by mistake, since the Captain treats him like his son so much of the time.
Once a old cat lady has mistaken Tweak for Kwazii's GIRLFRIEND. It was pretty awkward, and neither of them went near the other for a week. The Octopod was a lot quieter for that week.
The first time Peso's mother met Jane, she mistook her for a boy since Pinto was friends with her, and Jane in no way dresses like a girl. She was wearing her sister's t-shirt inside out, and a pair of her male cousin's shorts. (This was before Pinto told his mother Jane's name. His mother just said, "Oh Pinto, is he your new friend?")
