Gender

People on the Octopod have a lot of opinions of gender.

Peso, for example, believes that there's no barriers for what boys and girls can do. He, for example, loves having Dashi and his older sister, Pinata play dress up wit him, and will let them brush his feathers and put some makeup on him.

At the same time, he still loved to play cars, superheroes, and soccer with his brother and friends. 

Inkling believed in the "Ladies" and "Gentleman" rules. He believed that you were supposed to stand up to give your seat to a lady, 

The Vegimals have no understanding of gender beyond "Tomminow has different body parts than we do". They love her, and some of the bigger Vegimals will cradle her in their arms saying she's their "baby sister".

She's basically the baby girl of everyone. Dashi likes to treat her like a baby girl especially because Koshi and Jane have already comprehended the idea of free will and now refuse to let her dress them up.

Tomminow loves the pink dresses Dashi lets her wear, and will go up to everyone on the Octopod to show off her new clothes. In fact, one of the cutest scenes you'll ever find on the Octopod is her going up to "Daddy Shellydo" when he's doing science, and he'll just take her tiny flipper in his paw and tell her what a beautiful girl she is and kiss her head.

Tweak is a complete tomboy. Dashi keeps trying to get her to wear makeup and go shopping with her. Once, Tweak actually agreed, and immediately regretted it. Dashi bought her a pink dress, and Tweak absolutely hates dresses and the color pink.

Misgendering.... hahahahaha. It has happened to a lot of people on the Octopod. Once, I guess someone didn't know what an octopus looked like, cos one of Peso's relatives called Inkling "ma'am", and called Squirt his "grandson". Of course, Inkling was slightly offended, but politely corrected them, and Peso's relative felt so bad about it, and Inkling kept insisting that it was alright. 

One of the hardest people to misgender is the captain. He has a ridiculously deep voice and is super tall and buff.

Tweak is tall and muscular for a bunny, and kind of acts like a boy, so if you don't hear her voice, you can easily think she's a boy by mistake. When she does speak after someone mistakes her for a boy, their reactions are hilarious.

Jane however... she's at the age where most boys' voices aren't that low yet, she dresses in her male older cousin's clothes all the time. Yeah, she gets called a boy a little too often. But obviously, she likes it. 

The first time Natquik met her, he asked her  "And what's your name, little boy?" She liked it so much, she used her dad's name. "John Jr. sir!" (Her mother called her "Jane" for short because that's the girl version of "John" which is her father's name and he didn't find out until after the birth certificate was filled out.)
