you and sirius were standing in the courtyard, panting as the two of you had spotted filch and quickly sprinted across the castle to avoid being given detention.
sirius rested his hands on his knees bending down while you rest your forehead on his shoulder, calming your breathing.
"merlin, we need to exercise more," you picked your head up and fanned yourself with your hands.
"who's we?" sirius faked a confused look at you, causing you to hit him in the chest.
you and sirius stood facing each other as you stared into his beautiful brown eyes.
"ireallylikeyouandhavebeensincewewerethirteen," you blurted out.
"what?"
"i like you, sirius." you repeated slower this time.
"oh," sirius' eyes widened, "i...like you too."
"really?" you looked up hopefully at him.
"but i'm not really looking for a relationship y/n. i don't like being tied down...and i'm just not ready to commit to a relationship yet."
the smile on your face soon turned into a frown as your eyes stinged, the tears threatening not to fall.
you had just laid your heart out to your best friend and he took it in his hands and kicked it as far as he could like a football.
he could've been manchester's newest midfielder.
"oh uh, yea of course. i should've known," you sniffed as you wiped your eyes with the back of your hand, "i'm gonna uh, return to the common room first. i'll see you around yea?"
before sirius could try and stop you, you pushed past him and sped walked back into the castle and headed straight to your dorm to cry your eyeballs out.
the next few days you avoided sirius at all costs, which was absurdly difficult since you and him were usually conjoined at the hip and you and the marauders were rather closeknit as well.
you figured sirius had told the three what had happened the night before as the next morning when you were having breakfast, remus had slid into the seat next to you.
"are you alright?" he asked worriedly as you picked at your eggs.
"don't go pitying me now rem, it's fine, i should've known better," you said dejectedly as you took a bite out of your food.
for the next few weeks, peter, james, and remus would take turns walking you to class and having meals with you.
you insisted that you were just fine being alone but being the big-hearted gryffindors they were, they ignored your protests.
