I woke up to a pillow and blanket landing on top of me, followed by a soft whimpering noise coming from Y/n. Shit. Nightmare. I threw the blankets off of my body and shot up to Y/n's side. Sweat plastered her hair to her face just like last time. I placed my hand on her shoulder and gently shook her body.

Her eyes shot open and she let out a quiet sob as tears fell down her face. I stroked her hair from her face and rested my hand on her shoulder, looking into her eyes before speaking.

"Hey, it's just a dream. It's okay. You're safe." I assured, rubbing my hand up and down her upper arm.

"It was so real." She breathed out, her body shaking.

"I know. It's okay. This is real." I wiped her tears away with my thumb and gave her a reassuring smile.

"Peter, don't let them get me. Don't let me go back there."

She let out another quiet sob and I laid down on the couch beside her, pulling her to my body to comfort her. She burried her face into the crook of my neck and laid rested one of her hands on my collarbone and the other in my hair, running her fingers through it.

"Shhhh. I got you. They can't get you here. You're not going back there."

I one-handedly, grabbed one of the blankets off the floor and draped it over us before wrapping one of my arms around her waist and the other around her shoulders, my hand on her head stroking her hair.

I could feel her breathing begin to calm to a normal pace after a few minutes and her body quit shaking for the most part. I wiped the rest of her tears from her face as she closed her eyes and cuddled closer to me, not going to sleep, just focusing on staying calm. I rested my head on top of hers before closing my eyes as well.

After a couple minutes, Y/n let out a lengthy breath before her breathing slowed and she fell asleep in my arms. I, however, didn't go to sleep again for a while. I couldn't sleep. My mind was racing once again thinking about Y/n.

Does she have any siblings that are going through the same thing? Does anyone else know about what her grandparents are doing?  How long has this been going on? I need to do something. I need to tell someone. I have to. I can't let this keep going on.

I let out a sigh and grabbed my phone off the small table beside the couch.

3:07 am

I turned my phone back off before placing it back onto the table and returning my arm around Y/n's body. I pulled the blanket up to my shoulders and made sure Y/n wasn't cold before resting my cheek on the top of her head and falling asleep.

...

I was woken up by a murmuring of voices. I tried to turn in my sleep but I was stopped by Y/n's arms still wrapped around me, still gripping my body tightly. I slowly opened my eyes and met MJ and Ned's gaze. They had their phones out, I assume taking picures of Y/n and I laying together.

I shot them a glare. Ned grinned widely before sliding his phone back into his pocket and MJ glared back with the 'I do what I want' face. She took a few more photos and put her phone down.

I gently slid out from underneath Y/n and got up, pulling the blanket back up to her neck as she cuddled it tightly and curled into a ball.

I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and ran a hand through my messy hair before walking into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and fixed my hair. When I came back out, MJ and Ned were sitting in my room with serious looks on their faces.

"What?" I questioned.

"Was Y/n really in a car accident?" MJ asked.

"Yes." I lied.

"You're a terrible liar and you suck at keeping secrets."

"I am not."

"Yes you are. Remember how I figured out you are Spiderman?" She reminded.

I shushed her and looked out of my room to make sure Y/n was still sleeping before shutting the door.

"Okay, fine. She is lying but I'm not telling you what really happened. That's up to her. Don't pester her about it either. She'll tell you when she's ready." I spoke.

MJ and Ned nodded and got up from where they were sitting.

"Pancakes?" I suggested, changing the subject.

"Yes, please!" Ned exclaimed.

MJ just nodded in agreement as we walked out of my room and into the kitchen.

"Where's May?" I asked.

"She left for work a few minutes before you woke up. She didn't want to wake you." MJ informed.

I nodded and pulled out the neccessary ingredients and supplies to make pancakes. After about 15 minutes, the pancakes were complete and everyone had a plate; Y/n was still asleep. We ate and before we knew it, it was time for MJ and Ned to go home. They packed up their stuff and ended up leaving before Y/n woke up.

I was cleaning up the kitchen when Y/n trudged in, her hair messy and her hands rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"There's some pancakes and orange juice on the table for you." I stated.

She nodded and sat down at the table. Once she was fully awake and aware of her surroundings, she looked around the room.

"Where's Ned and MJ?" She asked.

"They just left. They said to tell you they said bye and they will see you soon." I informed.

She nodded again and started eating.

"Sorry for waking you up again last night." She mumbled.

"It's okay." I assured.

"No, it's not. My stupid nightmares keep waking you up. I'm enough of a burden as is and now you have to deal with this too."

"You aren't a burden. I get nightmares as well."

"What about? If you don't mind me asking." She asked.

"When I was around five, my parents died of a plane crash. They never figured out what brought it down. That's a reoccuring one; my imagination making me watch as their plane goes down. Uhh...not too long ago, I had to watch my uncle die. He tried to stop a robber and was shot. The robber ran off and the ambulance got there too late. He died in my arms." Tears filled my eyes and I sat down at the table across from Y/n.

"I'm sorry. My situation isn't nearly as bad as yours." She whispered.

"Hey, no. I didn't tell you the story to make you feel bad. I wanted to let you know that I know what it feels like to be haunted by your past."

She nodded slightly and played with the food in front of her with her fork.

"What about you? What are yours about?" I asked.

"Uhh..." She hesitated.
