(29) Stanley

Stanley is an Ex-Kitson Works  0-6-0ST, designed by Manning Wardle in 1917, and built by Kitson Works in 1934 for work in quarries. Stanley was built in 1935 on a special request from the NWR for an 0-6-0ST to work on the Great Waterton section, after a salt mine was discovered, and the demand for rail travel increased sharply in the growing city. Upon his arrival, Stanley had a brief conflict with Thomas, before settling in as the main shunter on that section of the mainline, becoming known for his workaholic and friendly nature. However, in 1950, a spike in demand at Knapford would see Stanley move to the big station there to assist in the yard, an activity which he can be seen doing during the buys seasons. During his life, Stanley has always worn a white livery with red lining, and has been allocated to Great Waterton MPD, but can also work out of Knapford MPD.
