.The music blared through the speakers, 'Mistletoe' by Justin Bieber playing. Henry was having a blast, dancing, and singing along in his terrible singing voice that was all too endearing. Drew definitely did have the best parties. Henry was dancing completely carefree, unaware of the hazel eyes fixed on him across the room.
"You're being way too obvious." Zoey sipped her hot chocolate, smirking at how Jake choked on air, caught off guard by her comment. He almost forgot that she was right here.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Jake said, pretending to be clueless.
"You should just ask him out"—she gestured to Henry—"he's alone right now anyway."
Jake gulped. "I don't... he doesn't like me like that, Zoey, he's straight. He liked Lia, remember?"
"You liked Daisy at a point too, but you like him now. He can be bi or pan or something, Jake, at least shoot your shot."
"But I don't want it to ruin our friendship," he whined.
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," Zoey deadpanned.
Jake huffed and glanced at Henry, who was now standing next to the food table, grabbing a gingerbread cookie. Jake contemplated doing it for a moment before nodding, looking fake-confidently at Zoey.
"I can do this."
Zoey patted Jake's shoulder. "Yes, you can."
Jake walked over to Henry, waving shyly. Henry grinned at him, extending his drink to Jake.
"Want some?" He asked cheerfully. Jake shook his head, watching Henry drink the whole glass in one go.
Jake stood there awkwardly, wondering where to start. "Um—"
"Hey look!" a loud voice exclaimed.
They turned their heads to look at Liam pointing at them. "You guys are under the mistletoe!"
The two boys snapped their heads up to the ceiling above them. As expected, a sparkly mistletoe hung on the ceiling.
Jake's cheeks flushed, realizing what this meant.
"The myth says that if you two don't kiss, you guys will have bad luck." Liam shrugged his shoulders. "May as well do it."
Jake looked at Henry hesitantly. Henry had a blank expression on his face before he turned to Jake with a small grin.
"I mean, sure," he said, "if Jake's okay with it."
Jake nodded shyly.
"Plus, we can say no homo after, right?" Henry continued, and Jake felt a piece of his heart break. But it was still better than nothing.
Jake stepped forward hesitantly. He still wasn't sure if this was actually happening. He's really about to kiss his crush of five months.
Their lips were inches apart, Jake waiting for Henry to close the gap (Jake had officially lost all his confidence) which he did, pulling him closer.
He was only expecting it to be a peck, but it was far from it. Jake was pretty sure they had been making out for a minute until Drew whistled.
"Guys, we have a party to continue?" he said. "You can take your make-out session to another room."
Henry looked at Jake, his eyes widening innocently. Jake waited for the dreaded cringy "no homo", but it never came. Henry let go of Jake, walking over to Drew with a bounce in his steps.
Jake was malfunctioning at this point, he wasn't even sure if he was breathing anymore. Zoey tapped him on the shoulder.
"So?" she urged. "Did you ask him?"
"No..." Jake said. "But, that kiss was the best Christmas gift ever."
