mainly YoonMin, but Joon is in it a lot too

It started with the worst case of alcohol poisoning Yoongi ever had. He knew better than anyone that he was an alcoholic, but never paid mind to the fact. He never listened; all he did was drink his life away.

That one night, Yoongi was pretty damn close to drinking his life away. His body was abnormally flushed and had been throwing up for the better of two hours before he was rendered unconscious; the only reason he had been taken to the hospital was due to a concerned partygoer that found Yoongi in the club bathroom. When he woke up in the hospital, he had amnesia and remembered nothing from that night, nor did he remember the names of his friends or the month and year.

Doctors decided to admit him to a rehabilitation center once he had regained his memory.

Yoongi remembered when he got his ten-day token from his councilor. He physically could not express his happiness; he was going through horrible withdrawal and needed an aide at his bedside at all times. But through his shaking and strong desire to launch curse words at anyone who so much as looked at him, he did feel proud of himself for making it ten days sober.

Ten days quickly turned into thirty; thirty into fifty; fifty into a hundred. On day one hundred, he was deemed ready to leave the center by both medical and counseling staff.

He went another thirty days before meeting Kim Namjoon, his bright, calming, supportive boyfriend.

Namjoon was not everything Yoongi wanted in a man -- he never knew what he wanted in a relationship, honestly. But Namjoon proved himself to be everything Yoongi needed. He was the one who pulled Yoongi out of his four-day relapse, banned alcohol in the house, and kept a close eye on his sweet, troubled boyfriend.

When it came time for Yoongi to move in with Namjoon, Yoongi was two years sober.

"Hyung, I think you should consider this as an option," Namjoon stressed, tapping the sheet of paper he picked up earlier today.

When he had gone to his annual check-up at the hospital (coincidentally the same hospital that saved Yoongi's life nearly five years prior), one of the nurses gave him an informational pamphlet about their volunteer program. He believed Yoongi would be perfect for the program; he was just so kind and nurturing and that kindness needed to be shared with others. Plus, Yoongi would get out of the house.

"Joon," the older man sighed, shaking his head, "do you really think they'd accept me? I'm a recovering alcoholic -- I'm one of the last people anyone would trust to care for other people."

Namjoon pouted and took a seat, reaching out to hold his boyfriend's hand. "They'll accept you, Yoongi-hyung. You've been sober for three years and proved time and time again that you're exceptional at taking care of people. You look after me, Jungkook, Hoseok, and even Jin-hyung when he's feeling down. We all trust you, Hyung."

"I don't know." Yoongi looked away, ashamed and embarrassed of himself. He had always underestimated himself, leading to his low self-esteem and trust issues. Sometimes, nothing anyone could say would make him change his mind.

The younger man knew this, so he pulled Yoongi close for a hug. He held him tightly, taking a deep breath in when he felt his boyfriend relax and hug him back. "I trust you, Yoongi-hyung. It's time you trust yourself."

"Your job will be very easy, Mr Min," the charge nurse, an older lady by the name of Junga, said as she led Yoongi through the hall. "All you have to do is sit in a recliner and hold the babies. They're all very sick and sad, but we realized that having someone spend quality time with them when their parents couldn't be there did wonders for their health."
